Re: Why not be optomistic about next season
clone52- I like to be optimistic too, but that's a little hard to do when we've been so bad the last 4 years, and lose our best two players going into next year. Do you really think we can replace two talented players like Brackins and Gilstrap with freshmen/first year players? There's always hope, and maybe I'm just overly negative because I've seen absolutely nothing in the way GMac has run his program ther last 4 years to give me much hope. His record is abysmal, and we can't even legitimately say he has that much integrity the way he went back on his word to Colvin on the penalty he set. He also gave Taylor 3 chances before he was booted. Contrast that with Morgan who booted George immediately when he got in trouble.

Re: Why not be optomistic about next season
Next year, I see a team with some senior leadership. I see a team that has played a lot of minutes together. I think Dendy will be much improved. He struggled for a while, but was coming around these last few games. Ham should make major contributions next year. He could easily get double-doubles consistently. SC will be a solid player. DG has made great strides through the season, and he could be one of the top points in the conference. JVB will get a lot of minutes, and provide another 3-pt shooter, as well as rebounder. CC will make a big jump in ability, and now knows what to expect in BCS opponents. Buckley gained some experience this year, and may provide solid play off the bench. Hopefully Booze will be in good shape, because we can use his spark. He also proved that he can score. It may take some time for the jucos to catch on; kind of an unknown right now. All in all, I'm certainly optimistic.

Re: Why not be optomistic about next season
I will be excited if Brackins comes back and we get the 2 guys from Marshalltown? and the the big fella that is considering us and Indiana.
Brackins
Hamilton
Ejim
Phillips
DG/Colvin
Dendy
SC
Vanderbeeken
Boozer
I could potentially get excited about this group, but Mac would have to do something he hasnt really done....nor am i convinced he can. Year 5 and still zero post season appearances..... Not saying we will do well, but i would at least be ready to watch em!!

Re: Why not be optomistic about next season
Looks like we will be the worst team in the state...
Iowa is getting a new coach (has to be better than Lick)
UNI- best team now by far, still some good pieces back
Drake-best Valley recruiting class, got better as the season went along

I will continue to root hard from my tv set. Seems like every other rebounding play, the Clones were shoved in the back as soon as they left the floor. We had numerous guys flying ten feet across the floor with no fouls called by the blind as bat refs. Now if we play skinny 215 pound players next year, they will either have to time their leap to jump early and get a shove/ref call or wait almost too late and jump so as to get knocked down for a foul. Right now the Big 12 guys shove us as soon as we leave our feet.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Why not be optomistic about next season
There's nothing wrong with delusional optimism ... that's what defines a sports fan for the most part. On the other hand, don't expect to win over too many converts by talking about how we landed the best juco's in the tri-county area. The team has to be good relative to what the other teams are doing in the Big 12. When McDermott was hired, there was a theory that he could "coach up" 2-star and 3-star recruits. There is no evidence to back up that theory any more.

Drake-best Valley recruiting class, got better as the season went along Why does Iowa's new coach have to be better than Lick? He took a team with talent that should not have won a conference game and did it 4 times. Plus program almost always takes a step back in the first year of a new coaching regime.

Re: Why not be optomistic about next season
Next year could get ugly. And even if the team has some success during the nonconference, what makes anyone think that GMac can carry that success through the Big 12 season. In case you didn't know, GMac's Big 12 record is 18-50 (.265 winning percentage) counting tournament games. That's even worse than short-timers like Tom Asbury at KSU (.315) and Todd Lickliter at Iowa (.278). Even Mr. Asbury took KSU to the NCAA tourney in 1996.
