15,000 cyclone fans can make it happen
Figure out the amount that is needed to hire a new coach and divide that number it by 15,000 (yes, it's an arbitrary number. But, I bet there are at least that many Cyclone fans that would pay to get this thing off dead center). I saw another thread where a guy would be willing to put in $3,300. Gather the money and present the deal to Pollard on the condition he wants the money he needs to make a change.
Re: 15,000 cyclone fans can make it happen
Except nothing is going to happen until the end of next year.
Re: 15,000 cyclone fans can make it happen
In today's economy something like this will never happen. It's a nice thought though.
A for effort. F for follow through.

Re: 15,000 cyclone fans can make it happen
$2,000,000 buyout in 2011
+$1,500,000 for new "splash" coach (estimate)
-------------
$3,500,000 / 15,000
-----------
$233.33 each - probably closer to $250-$300 each with assistants
Good luck finding 15,000 donors willing to kick in $250. We don't have that many NCC members...and this would be on top of their donation

I would never donate money to a cause that allowed a man to lose his job. Especially something as trivial as athletics.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who would receive $2.5 million for being let go for doing a subpar job. :skeptical:

Keep us all posted on how that works out for you. Maybe you could contact Pollard and borrow the FB Ticket Sales Thermometer since it has been retired. :jimlad:

I hate to burst some of your bubbles, but if I recall correctly, Mr. Pollard said he will be the coach next year

Technically he didn't really say that.

I am going to consult JP and respond with a strongly worded email.
Re: 15,000 cyclone fans can make it happen
I would rather the 2.5 million go to the football stadium.
And I am a basketball guy....
Re: 15,000 cyclone fans can make it happen
Good luck. There are only about 8,000 members of the NCC. Some dont want him fired and others just wont dontate to that cause.

How do you think you'd get a better coach here? We'd probably lose another player or 2 if GMac left and the new guy would NOT see quick success here either. Which "splash" coach would come to Iowa State to rebuild a program when they could to to any number of other schools and have so much more raw material to work with?

There is no reason to feel sorry for Gmac. He could retire tomorrow if his contract were bought out.
Worst case scenario for him, he goes to a much smaller D1 program and makes $200k, a year after his buyout.
With that said, count me in.
