What kind of bball does he play? I was reading up on this guy (due to the Iowa bball vacancy), and was wondering what style of ball he coaches. He seems like a great guy and good coach by his track record, but I'd like to know what kind of game he plays - is he more defense oriented or offense oriented? What kind of offense does he run? What kind of defense does he prefer?
I figured ISU fans would be much more knowledgeable about this question than Hawk fans. Thanks for any help!
At his time in Wichita, his teams thrived on D. At A&M, he has gotten more athletes, allowing a more potent offense. It is inside-out ball, and the D mixes between zone and man with fluent accuracy when they switch.
mostly defense and half court offense, but he definitely gets his athletes so they don't have a problem getting up the court either.
I think A&M is always one of the toughest games ISU plays all year.

On another note, ESPN showed how he bought and delivered all the students pizza while they camped out before the Kansas game in College Station. I thought it was really cool of him to show appreciation for their enthusiam. I'd love to have him as a coach. Dunno if Iowa has a shot though.

He has been in the discussion for the vacancy at Oregon too.......he was an assistant there back in the mid to late 90's.

Is playing smart, tough D, and rebounding only a mid-major approach? It sounds like what all teams should strive to do. Clearly not all major conference teams do this :no:, but neither do all mid-majors.Quote:

I was not jumping to conclusions, just stating that for that style of play (do not beat yourself) to be a distinguishing or identifying characteristic of the mid-major approach (basketball), it should be exclusive to mid-majors...the play of his teams is more identifying to that of successful teams vs not so successful teams, than mid-major vs BCS.
Hopefully no one jumped to the conclusion that I was suggesting anything about McD. I did suggest our recent play has been lacking some of the qualities that teams in the field of 64 possess.
From what I've read, Turgeon is still somewhat bitter about not being chosen by Oregon the last time there was an opening there (apparently he was one of the top candidates then and Oregon chose to go with the other guy). Turgeon currently makes $1.2M per year, I fully expect that Barta would offer a guy like him $2M+ in order to get him to IC.Quote:

After reading a lot about him, he has become my #1 choice for the Iowa job....hopefully Barta follows through on his promise to pay whatever he has to in order to turn the bball program around.
