What exactly IS basketball IQ?

What IS basketball IQ? (This has become the de facto cliché to describe/defend/support a mired of issues pertaining to the crappy play of ISU basketball).

It quickly became an over repetitive buzz word that several peeps used over and over again without actually addressing the true issues at hand - It became the favorite response/saying right out of “basketball analysis for dummies.”

Some say that although Gmac is a great professor with a high basketball IQ that the players can not grasp/learn the material being presented. And if only the team had a higher basketball IQ the mired of issues resulting in crappy play and four consecutive years of losing basketball would be resolved.

So I ask, what exactly is basketball IQ and how do you test for it?

I would say that it is basically your basketball instincts that are developed over years of knowing/learning what decision to make and when to make it.

It's a term used to describe teams who aren't good. Beyond that, I'm just as lost as you.

Its the innate ability for a player to make zero mistakes, or at least make every play correctly that is clearly available based on a fan's view from the stands, or watching from home.

I think for us Star Wars nerds, its sort of like the force. You have the ability to know what is going to happen before it does, therefore making the opponents defense ineffective. You also know where you team mates will be, and therefore have the ability to make spectacular plays.

Knowing what to do in EVERY situation. Being aware of the time, possession, and fouls. Basketball IQ is most important and easy to tell if a player has it at the end of a close game.

Looking like a pro decision maker while having college skillsets, Keeping turnovers to a minimum, making the right pass to the right person, not stepping out of bounds, knowing the place to go to when a play is run, not following a three point shooter, incurtring no technical fouls, always getting back on defense, helping out with backside defense, not fouling at critical times, shooting no air balls, making free throws at front end of one and one, not passing to the bigs aginst full court pressure, not swearing at the ref, no hanging on the rim, boxing out with your rear end, no grabbing jerseys unless you must foul, ability to make hard fouls, listening to your coach in the huddle, dunking the ball with both hands when you can, and not bouncing the ball off your foot. Is that enough?

So a player either has basketball IQ or he does not.

A player develops basketball IQ over a long period from playing basketball and just develops it from his experience of playing.

Once a player reaches a certain stage he can no longer acquire basketball IQ.

Basketball IQ can not be teached or coached to a player.

So why is it that ISU seemingly has no players with basketball IQ?

IMO Basketball IQ is knowing every inch of what the other team are going to do in certain situations... keeping TO, to a minimum knowing what defense that the other team is running, WHERE YOUR ******* PLAYERS ARE ON THE COURT!!!!!! COURT VISION!!!!!!
