We also fired him pretty late in the game (may), and imho, gave him a pretty ****** treatment. So we had a more limited pool of talent and possibly an image of an AD that wouldnt stand behind its coach.

Re: Time to bring Freddy back to Ames
Ok so the people that are against hiring Fred Hoiberg would probably like ISU to hire a mid major type coach that has taken his team to three straight NCAA tournaments and was a proven winner as a college coach? Oh yeah, we already did that with McDermott and it was a complete disaster.

Fact is: guy with midmajor head coaching experience and NCAAs would always be a better bet than guy with no head coaching experience.

Coaching hires are a gamble, but when it comes to opening day, do you want Tim Lincecum starting for you who has proven he can get it done on a lesser team, or someone who hasn't proven a damn thing?

Thats a terrible analogy.

I don't even think it would take 10 years. 3 years of success as assistant at a BCS school, or 2 years of success as head coach at a mid major would be enough for me to consider Fred.
But certainly, he needs some experience

Can't hire a guy with no coaching experience that has never recruited. Who is to say he even wants to coach?
