Actually it was 2 years. But your point is still valid.

We also fired him pretty late in the game (may), and imho, gave him a pretty ****** treatment. So we had a more limited pool of talent and possibly an image of an AD that wouldnt stand behind its coach.

Ok so the people that are against hiring Fred Hoiberg would probably like ISU to hire a mid major type coach that has taken his team to three straight NCAA tournaments and was a proven winner as a college coach? Oh yeah, we already did that with McDermott and it was a complete disaster.

Whoever we hire will be a gamble. Fact is: guy with midmajor head coaching experience and NCAAs would always be a better bet than guy with no head coaching experience.

I'm not sure on the exact number, but the vast majority of coaches in BCS conference schools come from the mid majors.

Coaching hires are a gamble, but when it comes to opening day, do you want Tim Lincecum starting for you who has proven he can get it done on a lesser team, or someone who hasn't proven a damn thing?

Or 10 or so years of being an assistant of some type. Not assistant to the assistant scout of the T-Wolves.

    Thats a terrible analogy.

I don't even think it would take 10 years. 3 years of success as assistant at a BCS school, or 2 years of success as head coach at a mid major would be enough for me to consider Fred.

But certainly, he needs some experience

Fred is not the assistant to the assitant scout of the T-Wolves. He is the number two man in the entire organization. BIG DIFFERENCE.

They could very well be the worst organization in the NBA. Were not talkin about the Lakers here.

He's welcome to be athletic director should Pollard leave. But Head Coach? Get into coaching first, Fred.

I would like John Wooden to be 50 years younger and be the next head coach, doesn't mean it is going to happen and repeating it 100 times isn't going to make it so. Can't hire a guy with no coaching experience that has never recruited. Who is to say he even wants to coach?

This would be like hiring a CEO of Enron. The Timberwolves are a laughing stock of the NBA.
