Time to bring Freddy back to Ames
If recent rumors of Colvin transferring and yet another assistant leaving this week (has to be Otzelberger because he is really only one left), my prediction is that McDermott is fired by the end of this week. If that happens it is time to hire Fred Hoiberg as our next men's basketball coach. People will say how can we hire someone who has never been a coach before? Easy answer is that he may be one of the only people interested in the disaster of our program right now. Also, how can he do any worse than McDermott has done? We won't have to pay Fred a bunch of money right away because he has never been a coach. Also, he will put fans in the seats for the next couple of years even if we aren't winning. It is time to bring the Mayor back to Ames!

Re: Time to bring Freddy back to Ames
Do we really want to have to fire the Mayor when we fire everyone else in a year or so?

With that reasoning, maybe that's the role Nurse was brought into. Anyway, I doubt Pollard tells GM who to hire.

Great idea. Bring in a guy who has never coached in his life. Never had to go recruit. Most people outside of this state probably don't even know who he is, so there goes your recruiting angle there. That is exactly the kinda guy we need to clean this mess up!!!!!

Exactly. Hoiberg might make a little sense in a lower coaching role, but you dont give someone with zero coaching experience a head coaching job.

That's why you hire good assitants to help recruit. i didn't see many people on here complaining when we hired Cael Sanderson as head wrestling coach when he had only a couple of years of experience as an assistant under his belt.

I disagree, it is rumored that Pollard is very upset right now with the departure of Hamilton right after his press conference supporting GMAC. The departure of Colvin and Robinson will be the end of GMAC and it will happen soon.

How much experience does Fred have as a coach at the collegiate level?
How long as Fred been out of the collegiate game?

And I don't see Fred being seriously interested in coaching. He might have moved into some sort of coaching role by now if he was interested in coaching.
Don't ask me who I think we should bring in. Anyone who could win 5 conference games a year and get us to the NIT once in 4 years would be an improvement.

Can he possibly do worse that McDermott has done? The simple answer is no.

Cael Sanderson was the face of USA wrestling. Can't say the same for Fred and basketball.
