I didn't read this whole thread but it's premise is a good one and something I have struggled with for years. They are entertaining, at times informative and mostly quite addicting. For me personally they are a catalyst for enjoyable recreation and then turn and bring out my worst all in the same evening.
I no longer post on Iowa sites just because of the negativity and although they do indeed serve a purpose per se. I think they along with Face book and other impersonal medium's are borderline agents of evilness or asocial at best. With that said it is "us" like with guns that are the evil doers, but the medium and it's impersonal nature greatly aids in it's negativity. It brings out the idiot in all of us at times.
Just like with cy9fan64's post (the last I read) KU's fans being hyper-critical of Self (and that happens on EVERY message board in the land) is just dumbfounding. It's ok when it is other fans but it is over the top irritating when it is your own. Hence why I avoid Iowa sites.
It's also why I take regularly sabbaticals from such sites and have started not posting during the week. They can suck you in and MOST, meaning literally 90% of those who post on them, intelligible or not, don't monitor themselves very well IMO. I have been one of those and I try to be a little more careful and reserved now on the amount of time I spend and the things I say. Even so I still fail.

I think what recruits remember about ames is the personal experiences they had. After a bball game in which they felt the positive energy of our crowd, its laughable to think that they might go on a recruiting trip to say, Colorado and think, I'm going to go to CU because even though the CU crowd stinks and the people treated me like crap....I'm going there cause I just can't stomach the things those anonymous isu fans say on there message boards.
I didn't bash you (or people that speak English as a second language). I always give the people I work with (Asians, Africans, Europeans, deaf people , etc.) a lot of respect and patience when communicating. After all, that is my job.
I have the sort of feeling that you are playing the race card, here. You need to let that go, immediately, because you are wrong. Fact is, you were just interpreting my message however you wanted. I do not respect that, at all. Our conversation on this topic is over as far as I am concerned.
Yes, we would never know what a **** MBB program we have without CF!!! :jimlad:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. hilarious. So let's assume the worst. I was "interpreting your message however I wanted". Just because I do that you ask me if English is my first language, based on that alone, and the fact you (admittedly) saw my handle implied I was from Asia.
I didn't tell you you were being racist for disagreeing with me or calling me out on my post. You were the first one to bring race of any sort into this. But yes. I am playing the race card. The ultra sensitive PC guy who has an avatar of a rice hat on cy. Keep telling yourself that.
Interestingly enough, you have also helped my other point. I can only assume you are in some way prejudiced by responding to a post on a sports forum by questioning someone's racial and language background, which in my mind, is a personal thing when it has nothing to do with the conversation at hand. Does this one experience sour me on CF? No. Just like one person's ridiculous thread shouldn't sour Bo Barnes on ISU.
As one of the ******* nimrod hacks you mention I guess I'm confused. We're nimrods yet recruits take what we say to heart? You're giving us too much credit or the recruits too little, or both. The subject of ISU MBB is indeed toxic and no amount of negative or positive criticism can change that now.
Have you read the football threads lately? If you have mediocre records while being passionate about ISU you can be worshiped as a coach. The toxicity of MBB started from within and you should be glad some of us care enough to even ***** at this point.
Cyclone fans love everyone who is passionate about ISU. Even if you **** up. Gmac won the games he should in the preseason, then fell apart...which becomes toxic, because no one, not even Gmac, showed ISU love/passion during the MBB season.
We love CPR because he put himself on the line for ISU and won a couple games. He's "so proud" to be our coach.
Where is that "so proud" moment for Gmac?
Yes ... message boards are the problem. Our only hope may be to recruit illiterates from this point on.
Passion, criticism, frustration, venting, exhiliration. When I started this thread, I was not talking about fan emotion. People, in general, are emotional, and that is the point. I am not coming on here to say leave your emotions at the door.
What I'm saying is, be respectful, and understand your point of view, however trivial, may rub someone else the wrong way. If you don't care what someone with a CF handle cares, that's fine. I don't either...for the most part.
I would just hope there is a little bit of thought/professionalism before posting, especially if the post is directly related to, or about, a player/kid.
I am also not saying this board carries a lot of weight with those recruits who may read it, but I agree with someone else who said "If you think (recruits) don't read them, you're burying your head in the sand". What I am saying is, this board, at the design of those who run it, is very well run...making it easily accessible. In my experience, it may be the most accessible fan site/message board in the country (maybe that's because I don't give a **** about other schools sites).
Easy accessibility and "nimrod hacks" who blindly bash kids they have never seen play or who are actively playing and representing the school we all love is where my issue lies.
My opinion?
Any potential recruit that has to come to Cyclone Fanatic (or a similar site for another school he/she may be considering) to find out that ISU's mens basketball program is in free fall is either
A. Freshly awoken from a 10-year coma, therefore he/she will probably have a hard time performing physically in the Big 12.
B. Dumber than a bag full of hammers, therefore he/she will probably flunk out of a challenging school like ISU within the first year.
CF is poisoning the recruiting base? Are. You. Freakin'. Kidding. Me? Even Helen Keller can see the buzzards circling around our program.
