I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
I don't get why everyone thinks we are going to be so bad. The season is going to entirely hinge on DG (and CC if he stays). BB is so guard oriented. If DG can continue into this year like he ended last year. (agressive) Then there is a chance we could be decent. With a veteran line up of
DG
Scotty
Booz
Jaime V
Dendy
And CC / Oliver / Ejim / Demarcus Phillips all could possibly start or be very able substitutions.
I guess I just see a big surprise comming (if DG brings it) since know one is giving us a chance.
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
We will be bad because we have 5 returning players from a team that was the worst in the Big 12.
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
I just hope your not holding your breath. While there is a slight chance we could be better than most think, there is more than enough facts and reason for people to think that we wont.
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
If that's what you think, you should definitely be prepared to be surprised.
There will be no good teams in the state next year.

Nebraska gave us players? Wow, that was sure nice of them.

My fear is that we finish 14-16 and some will try to spin it as though we have somehow 'turned the corner' since we 'overachieved'.
I've said it before and I will say it again now...give me a 20-10 underachieving team over a 14-16 overachieving team every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

My bad... forgot about them. Should be a close race with them next year to see who gets last. Cant wait for the excitement.
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
Everything centers around getting a big or hopefully two:
Point Guard: DG, Phillips, Bubu...Maybe add walk on or Juco...4 deep, we can make that work.
Two Guard: SC, Phillips...Hoping for Barnes, plus Bubu can back this up...4 deep with Barnes.
Small Forward: Ejim, Boozer, Oliver...SC can back this up. 4 deep, "IF" we don't have to slide Ejim to the power forward.
Power Forward: Vanderbeken, Ejim, Dorr....Glaring whole.
Center: Dendy(?), Railey, Dorr...Glaring whole.
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
Just remember that Booz has scored more than 5 points 9 times in three years. He'll likely show an uptick in production, but don't expect the world.
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
One thing to definitely keep in mind. Things are never as good as they seem when things are going well and things are never as bad as they seem when things are going poorly. Best just to stay positive and keep moving foward!
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
to be good next year, Phillips needs to come in and lead the league in scoring. Ejim and Railey need to be the best freshman in the big 12. And our post players need to some how transform into good defenders and good rebounders. Then we might be good
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
I like Jamie but no way he is physical enough to guard big centers. Jamie just seems like a tall wing forward to me. And Dendy might be able to guard them but he'll get in foul trouble in no time.

Actually, it's the opposite, he can guard them, but can't score inside. They are working with him on that.

I would guess that we see a lot of time where we only have Dendy or Vanderbeiken on the floor. We just don't have enough big men to give these guys a break so I think we'll run a 3 guard, SF, C type of lineup. Similar to what W. Johnson did his freshman year. Hopefully Railey is good or we sign a PF, but as of now this looks like a possiblity. I see the starters as:
PG - Garrett
SG - Scotty
SG/SF - Boozer
SF/PF - Eijm
C - Dendy
That leaves Pillips, Vanderbeiken, and Oliver to come off the bench. If we can bring in another guard and don't lose anyone else then we should at least be able to field a team without walkons.
Re: I guess I don't see us being as bad as Miller & Deace
If we cant win with 2 NBA prospects, we can't win without them.
