Okay to contradict the sky is falling and there's nobody out there statements....

There are plenty of quality players out there that could be late qualifiers etc that people have yet to consider - but, if we have schollies and these kids qualify, we can offer....the thought of playing in the big 12 right away or not playing Div. 1 is a very real situation for some of these kids....

Check these kids out....only looking at 3-5 position players right now - i think thats our biggest need for next year.

    Delwan Graham #140 Juco list....
    Delwan Graham - Yahoo! Sports

Originally signed to LSU out of high school and screwed up - lost his schollie. Went to Chipola and is slated to graduate. But, out of HS he was ranked as the 23 best prospect for PF in the 2008 class. Player Evaluation:
One of the top athletes in his class, especially when it comes to leaping and running in transition. Powerful kid who would excel in up and down style.

Bottom line is guys, as much as we all dislike the situation - its time to make the best of it rather then continuing to hate - our hatred of the situation is not helping at all. Trust me, i could vent and be disgusted as much as anyone else.. There is a ton of talented kids out there still available - especially JUCO kids, we just need to find one-two quality kids ready to contribute day one.....they're out there....

But, when it comes to getting new recruits excited about ISU, read these message boards and they're goin to Middle Tennessee State instead of ISU....

JP has an agenda and he is going to stick to it. The best we can hope for is GMac doing okay next year and getting some recruits. If not, the cupboard will be as bare as anyone could imagine and ISU will look like an extremely unattractive job.
Who actually wants GMac to fail? We all want him to succeed because that means ISU Basketball is succeeding. However, if you look at the roster (or lack thereof) objectively, you begin to realize that there is NO WAY we can possibly succeed next season.

What's really laughable is the lack of concern by some posters that continue to think that the inability to recruit is nothing to worry about and McDermott should bank those 4 scholarships - at this rate, when McDermott's contract expires, he won't be able to put a team on the floor...

    If??

Why do you doubt someone can have success at ISU in short order...the right guy can...and has in the past.

Patience...the ISU faithful have proven they are patient to a fault.

    Jeesh!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I think that thinking ISU is such a bad place that its fans shouldnt expect what almost every other BCS program has done (and all others have had coaching switches) and be able to make a postseason in a 4 year period is far more negative than anything thats said by those who want GMac fired. If we dont think we can do what every single other BCS team can do, then we might as well fold up our basketball program and tear down hilton.
    Amen brother!!!!

That is the ultimate in negativity...not believing ISU should make some sort of postseason in a four year stretch.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I truly admire your optimism and roll up your sleeves and do some research mentality on trying to find something out there for us...I hope are coaches are doing the same.

However, I question if GM either wants to or is able to figure out how to use the attributes that Graham (described above) possesses.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

    Re: Bad to Worse

Maybe the strategy is to allow the new coach next year to bring in all the recruits. Won't have to worry about defections if only 3 or 4 players are left at the end of next year.

KMAK_ATTACK look I am with you in that I want ISU & GMac to succeed together. I want the players we have and have signed to be great at ISU. My point is the players we were on that we had established relationships with went elsewhere. I would love it if some of the guys you highlighted signed with ISU. None of them from your post currently list ISU and it is tough to move up the list late. Your point however is valid that we do have something to offer that other schools may not...playing time in BCS conference. The whole point of my post wasn't intended to be sky is falling, but simply these guys are not coming and it is going to get even tougher for GMac to pull it out, but i for one will be pulling for him and supporting ISU BB through all times thick and thin.

JCLONED - 100% agree.....two things though...1-losing Robinson was critical to losing several of the recruits we were in on.....to say anything less is underestimating the recruiting impact that Robinson had while at ISU....he is sorely missed.....2-Alot of those guys were being recruited by big time programs, however, some of those programs will have backed off because of the early signing periods and thus reduces the bcs offers some of those kids have.......thus helping us....Trust me - Early playing time for a JUCO is extremely important.

Wesley - i hate to say it but YEP.....with what has occurred this year, we need big 12 bodys just to compete next fall - only option there is JUCOs. I'm surprised that were going after the Wisconsin kid, his body is no where near big 12 ready and thus were signing guys to redshirt? seriously, we could have 8-10 scholarship players, they need to be able to contribute - I know GMAC knows his fate is dependent upon next year, he needs to win.

Wrong argument. Martin is living the high life based on what Huggy-Bear left behind. He's just maintained it so far.

That being said, Huggins proves the right coach can turn a bad situation around in short order.

Call me a debbie downer but I agree with you. Look at a program like Indiana - loaded with history, huge number of recruiting advantages ISU does not have, and they've been just awful two straight years. Just terrible. If McD is let go after next year we're likely looking at that kind of situation. At least it's a lot more likely than the alternative of immediate success. I have no problem with people wanting McD gone but I do have a problem with that assertation.
