I thought this thread was going to be about him getting caught cheating again.

I respectfully disagree. He is a great coach. His problem is he never sticks around long enough to get that credit by some. What he did at ISU in 95-95 was one of the greatest coaching jobs you will see!

I never realized he got caught cheating a first time.

    Accusations =! getting caught.

I find it ironic (and stupid) that the only people who don't think he is a good coach are some ISU fans. In the basketball world, he is known to be a good if not great coach.

That's not really true. He wasn't highly thought of in the NBA at all. He was even fired after making the playoffs with the Hornets.

I never said he wasn't a good coach. He is a good coach. I just don't think he is a god or even a great coach like other Cyclone fans do. He gets good players (but we know that isn't on the up and up)

We do? Again, all there was was an accusation. If there was something there, all the NCAA would of had to do is put 2 + 2 together. The NCAA came down on Sampson for something a lot less serious than what Floyd was accused of.

About him not being a great coach, I submit the years 1995-1997. You can also thank him for LE's great years, ie Fizer and co. By ISU standards, he was arguably the best coach we've had.

He was highly thought of enough to get hired by the Bulls, then even after a poor performance (ahem, look at what players he had...) he was still well regarded enough to get hired by the Hornets. In case you haven't realized, good coaches get fired all the time in the NBA. No one is saying he is Phil Jackson.

I bet you also don't think that Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens did steroids either, do you? I mean they are just accusations. Floyd doesn't quit like he did if he wasn't guilty.

And of Larry's Elite 8 team Nurse, Tinsley, Horton, and Rancick were all LE's guys right? I know Fizer was a big part of that team. Don't forget that the following year without Fizer (so all LE guys) Iowa State won the Big 12 regular season and were a 2 seed.

Like I said, Floyd is a good coach but not great. He will look great next season with that stacked squad though

Re: Tim Floyd at it again!!

Has there not been an "accusation" the only reason LE had two of ISU's best years in mens basketball history was due mainly to Tim Floyd's players?

And because we swerved onto the subject of "accusations"....since March of 06' there seem to have been a plethora of them that tie directly into the "Tim wasn't that great" line of thinking. Such as the above mentioned "take away the two years and LE wasn't that great" accusation. How about the one about "Johnny was good, but never really accomplished anything" accusation? Or the "we have never been a basketball school" accusation? And don't get me started on how many accusations were laid at the feet of Wayne Morgan! How about the accusation that GMAC is a great coach? How he is always being blind sided? How about the one where undisciplined kids are the problem? Or the accusation that even this website..for adding to the demise of the mens basketball program? Oh....did I mention the one about GMAC being a great coach? See a pattern?

I think Floyd is a solid coach...a good coach...but he is not a great coach.

Witness that he has never coached a team past the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. 16 years as a head coach and 2 Sweet 16s out of only 8 NCAA Tournament appearances is his high water mark.

Nice guy, good coach...but not a great coach.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

but, but, but we do things the RIGHT way! And THAT is why we are stuck with 4 years of crappy results and boring basketball. Everyone else is clearly cheating and we wouldn't want them (including Floyd) anyway because of that, and because they are clearly not Big XII ready coaches......

IMO Floyd was the best coach ISU has had. Johnny meant more to the program but as far as the job they did while at ISU you can't argue with the results of Floyd under the circumstances.

I would take this over 4 years, zero NCAAs, zero NITs.
