The longer GMac is around, the more beat down the program gets, and the less attractive a job it becomes. Maybe hiring some new assistants will help.
BTW, whatever happened to Barry Stevens son? Wasn't ISU after him at some point in time?[/QUOTE]
On the other hand, the fact that we've given McDermott so long to succeed will show any new coaches that they'll be given every chance to succeed.

Re: McDermott Guaranteed 2-3 more years?
You can have your opinion on who would take this job, but I am guessing that you would be the first one on here ******** when we got some crap coach from some crappy team.
Oh, I know. My reaction to Greg has been so knee jerk. I only gave him a half-decade worth of support. I really should be on board longer. -

The first lesson when in a hole is to stop digging. How about hoping / wishing GMac and a new set of assistants with different experiences and perspectives will succeed. Novel idea?

Re: McDermott Guaranteed 2-3 more years?
I haven't said you should support him. I haven't said that anyone should support him. I've said why I support him and why I don't agree with making a change. Stop putting words in my mouth.

I want Iowa State to win. I wish GMac could get it done here. I just am at the point where i think he can't get it done here and every year longer he stays here will make it that much harder for the next guy to clean up his mess.

I love how the title of this skewed to be negative when I think if it's true...hiring Grayer is awesome news. But no, the rumor gets the headline. I love agendas.

Umm.. arent they both rumors? Also... imho, a *guarantee* of 2-3 more years for a coach is much bigger news than an assistant hire.

Re: McDermott Guaranteed 2-3 more years?
i doubt that he will be guaranteed 2 more years..you don't know exactly how things can turn out. I do not think the team will be as bad as people think, but I think those people are just overreacting to not wanting mac to coach

Re: McDermott Guaranteed 2-3 more years?
I think all this speculation is pointless. This all comes down to how well Greg does this year. If we are as bad or worse than last year, there is no way they keep him around another year. If he gives us some glimmer of hope, he gets another year to sort things out. There is no chance Jamie is set to some kind of long term time table considering the state of the program now, and the extremely detrimental effects an additional year of Greg would have if we are bad next year.

I've heard the Grayer rumor a few times so I'll put some stock in it. To get a guarantee, that's lunacy. Wish it was two seperate articles because if one turns out to be true the other will assumed to be true as well. I don't see how any AD can guarantee 2-3 more years with the state our program is.
And yes, you can lead the article whichever way you want. The agenda is for more coach bashing so the lead is Mac guaranteed 2-3 more years.

Re: McDermott Guaranteed 2-3 more years?
Makes complete sense. The time to get rid of him was 6 weeks ago. Everyone including JP knows best case scenario next year we'll be 10th in the conference standings. I would bet the house on 12th.
By not firing Greg at this juncture it seems logical that he would have a job at least two more full years. It's a foregone conclusion we will be in the same predicament (if not worse) in March of 2011.
You don't give a guy just one more year when FAIL is not just probable but inevitable for that year.

Plus Ames is a great place to raise a family. Don't give me the crap about ISU being such a bad job, it's simply not true, plenty of guys have had success here. Just because Greg hasn't been able to accomplish what the 4 coaches before him did, don't tear down ISU basketball.
+1
I am with you.
