Grayer? Is that true?
So basically Greg gets to hit the reset button and try again.
If Grayer came aboard, I'd be a little optimistic. I like the Nurse hire already.
Unfortunately, next year is going to be so bad that Pollard will have no choice than to pull the trigger.
I have no idea what sources this guy has. It seems to me like he gets a combination from message boards and radio hosts. He's bound to be right sometimes and bound to be wrong.
I'm in favor of keeping McDermott around for a few more years, I think. I don't know that next year will suck as bad as think it will. It's an easier schedule and we will have a bunch of seniors on the team (I hope!!). The fans will have no expectations. The players will have no pressure.
And, in the worst case scenerio, the longer we keep him around, the better coach we can afford. I'm not a fan of firing someone without having a good idea who can get to replace him. I don't think that this job is at all appealing to anyone.
I don't know about Grayer. I wonder what he's been involved in coaching wise in the last 20 years. And I worry about his recruiting ties.
One thing that Grayer would bring is 100% commitment to Iowa State. He would LOVE to coach here and I would hope that his love of the place might rub off on some people. And I would think that he could be a great player relation guy. He knows what it is like to play college basketball. He also knows what it is like to play in the NBA (and he knows what it is like to have some bad luck in the NBA).
Grayer would definately be a feel good guy for the fans. I hope that he is very serious about working with the coaches and improving Iowa State basketball. And I hope that he will be a relentless recruiter.
I learned along time ago to not believe everything I read on the internet.
just sayin'.

The longer GMac is around, the more beat down the program gets, and the less attractive a job it becomes. Maybe hiring some new assistants will help.
BTW, whatever happened to Barry Stevens son? Wasn't ISU after him at some point in time?
That's one of the apologist arguments that really irks me. There are plenty of mid major head coaches or high major assistants that would love a chance to rebuild this program. We have a brand new practice facility, a great home court, and a loyal fanbase. Plus Ames is a great place to raise a family. Don't give me the crap about ISU being such a bad job, it's simply not true, plenty of guys have had success here. Just because Greg hasn't been able to accomplish what the 4 coaches before him did, don't tear down ISU basketball.Quote:

We aren't going to be Indiana bad next year. It's very rarely as bad as it seems, just as it's very rarely as good as it seems when we feel like we have some momentum.
Both of those hires seem to make some pretty good sense. Grayer is from Michigan, right? Does anyone know if he's been living there recently?
He's not saying anything that hasn't been on this board or CR before. And the Grayer crap came from Miller this afternoon.
He could have great sources or not. I could put together a websites of rumors I get from here and CR and the paper and twitter feeds of players and facebook statuses of players. It's not difficult.
If you know him, you can pass on that he isn't a big genius or anything :)
Mid major coaches and major assistants were very reluctant to take jobs this year. Did you freaking following the coaching searches this year? Oregon can't find a coach. Iowa settled (but probably got a good one). Wake Forest hired someone who didn't win at Colorado.
You can have your opinion on who would take this job, but I am guessing that you would be the first one on here ******** when we got some crap coach from some crappy team.
This would support what KG-Clone said after the end of the season. I do not remember the thread but he said that GMAC was here for the long term which implied at least 2 more years.
