Re: Jeff Grayer New Assistant (Official)
Is this combo a new recruiting advantage for ISU?
We now have an assistant coach with experience developing professional athletes and having his players be called up to the NBA in Nurse. We are adding to that a player with experience playing in the league and getting there at Iowa State.
Is this a new selling point to kids that want to go to the NBA? I mean we used to be able to sell Big 12 playing time and exposure. But IMO this has to elevate the ability to sell we know what it takes to get you in the draft.

Re: Jeff Grayer New Assistant (Official)
How nice will it be that both have coached NBA wannabe's and can tell a kid like Colvin that his attitude and style may work in Chicago high school but it's not going to get him to the pros.

I was so down on ISU MBB, but now I am hopeful, I really like these two hires. See another common theme is Integrity and Respect. Me thinks these hires say a lot about what was missing.

Will anybody be surprised if Grayer makes more appearances on the spring tailgate tour than McDermott.

Re: Jeff Grayer New Assistant (Official)
Another great day for the Iowa State MBB Program!!! Life is good. It may be raining and cool outside the Sukup Basketball Complex today but inside it is bright, warm, and sunny! The tide has turned. Welcome home Jeff Grayer! Go Cyclones!!! -
Re: Jeff Grayer New Assistant (Official)
Hopefully he can bring in this guy from Flint to do some PR and possibly some recruiting... -
Re: Jeff Grayer New Assistant (Official)
Clearly this is a PR move. I am not sure if it is a good one or not, time will tell.
So, is TJ leaving or not? I am concerned about recruiting with this staff as it sits right now.

It certainly doesn't hurt the PR but to bring in a guy with serious ties to Flint, and Michigan in general is VERY smart. There's a lot of kids out here in MI that can play at the Big 12 level that his attachment to flint will reap rewards. I can see him finding a couple diamonds before the season starts.

That is what this team lacked the last few years.

And yes, hiring a guy who was let go from his previous job for performance issues seems at least partially like a PR move to me. Hopefully it turns out well for us and for Jeff.

You bring in a minority coach who bleeds cardinal and gold. Played on an olympic team. Played in the NBA. Has contacts from both. He can do the job. It's insulting to him for you to say it's a PR move

What has changed...why is ISU now hiring Jeff?
