100 years of Cyclone basketball
The hiring of Grayer got to me, and I had to sit down and watch this. Some thoughts....
I swear I remember watching or listening to every highlight they showed from 1982 on. My hair is still on end.
Johnny Orr needs to be honored in a permanent and fitting way. NOW. He is Iowa State basketball.
Lafester's 54 against Iowa is the best single game performance I have seen.
Grayer is even better than I remember. Talk about smooth. And when he talks about Iowa State, it makes me damn glad that he is back.
I'd love to see Freddie back some day too.
Brought back memories of so many great players.
We need to find a way to get Hilton Magic back.
Whooo weee Coach, am I pumped up!

What happend w/ the statue for JO? I assume money issues were a problem. I think they could take a collection up, id gladly give a hundy to help out. I think this should be done soon while he can still enjoy it. Also, they could make it semi-moveable so that if they did change the entrance of Hilton or something they could move it.

In a word, nothing. JP's letter to the Johnny Orr Project alluded to something that was already in the works, but was facing delays due to budgetary problems. His hope was to announce it by this last basketball season. I'm no fundraiser, but it seems to me that if something was announced with a goal in mind, people would pour their hearts and money into the effort for Johnny, and it would happen much faster. I can only guess that other fundraising projects have priority?

I was in the parquet center court for Lafester's game. I don't think I ever sat down!

Unfortunately, next year is YEAR 5 of the GM era...not year 1.
What sickens me most is most of the GM apologists on this site have spent the better part of the last 3 years trying to minimize the history of Cyclone MBB since JO in an effort to somehow make the pathetic GM era somehow look better.
If GM really had any class, he would pay for the tribute to JO out of his own damned pocket...statue or whatever it may be.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
