The program would get worse
If these rumors are true, ISU MBBall will be worse off. The head coach at the Big 12 level school accepting a head coaching job at a mid major program shines no light on the program and will make ISU the laughing stock of the country. I am a McDermott hater, but having him coach another terrible season is better than him leaving at this point, especially to a mid-major.

Re: The program would get worse
I agree with this. We will be the laughing stock of the college basketball world. Which is why I think we will not get any coach worth a damn right now. It would have been best for this to happen at the end of the next season giving us more time to interview people along with other schools going through a coaching change. Right now we are left with the scraps no one wanted for a head coach.

We are the worst right now, no where to go but up.

Re: The program would get worse
I thought we already are the laughing stock. If not, who is?

Re: The program would get worse
It can not possibly get worse than it is currently. Greg leaving re-invgorates the fan base and allows the new coach to recruit more effectively. When you are a BCS level school and are getting beat for kids by the powerhouses of TCU, Utah and Hawaii there is a significant problem. This should all go away when McD is at CU. There is no downside to him leaving. If this move truly happens we are VERY, VERY, VERY fortunate.

Re: The program would get worse
You guys are on crack. This is a good job and we'll have a good pool of candidates. I'm pretty sure if we handed the program over to Nurse we would be in better shape than sticking with McDermott.

Re: The program would get worse
We already are the laughing stock of basketball. Every coach in the Big 12 was praising GMAC this past year, saying how he was a good guy for the job and was going to do good things at ISU, when in reality they were trying to keep GM here for as long as possible because they could consider us a guaranteed win.
We need a new start now, who cares where our old coach goes, but with Mac here, we were just headed down a dead end road with no end in sight.

We already were awful. GMac did that to us.

Just a little suggestion: actually coming out and calling yourself a "McDermott hater" makes me think that you're flying under a false flag. Very, very few of GMac's detractors here, myself included, wanted to be known as a "McDermott hater", much less be willing to self-identify as one.

Living outside of Iowa, all my friends here have 0 ties to the state of Iowa and that includes ISU. The ones I talk to college basketball with always give me **** for being an alum of ISU and how much of a joke we are.
Sorry, but we were already a laughing stock.

Re: The program would get worse
Creighton got their last coach from a Big 12 school. Doesn't happen every day, but it happens. I think this could be a win/win for ISU, for Creighton, for McDermott and for Pollard. -

Re: The program would get worse
McD made us fall below Creighton, and then "moved up" to Creighton. Big deal.
Good thing he was not here longer. Or he would have made us fall below Des Moines Area Community College, and thereby would have created a possibility for himself to move up when the DMACC job opened up.
Good riddance.

Re: The program would get worse
I don't see how this would make us worse. We've been in trouble as a program already. This can only help.

Re: The program would get worse
Creighton is one of the best mid major jobs. He is not taking a pay cut. Mac has won in the Mo Valley. He will get to run a good program and not be at a BCS school. It is a perfect fit for him.
