ESPN Reporting
ESPN is now reporting GMac is hired. Well, I think it's per KMEG actually, but this "blog post" came out 15 minutes ago: Blue Jays hire McDermott, waste no time - College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPN
Who knows if they'd risk getting it wrong if they didn't know it was true.

Re: ESPN Reporting
What's interesting about this is that the tables are turned: Iowa State is a BCS conference school with a history of occasional basketball success. It's the sort of place that fancies itself a coaching destination. It does not fancy itself a stepping stone to a Missouri Valley Conference program, not even one as good as Creighton. In this case, though, that's what it was. The tables are turned.
As for Creighton, the hire is something of a coup -- the Blue Jays didn't need to go to an assistant or an obscure mid-major coach, instead landing a Big 12 head coach with a history of success in the MVC. McDermott took Northern Iowa to the NCAA tournament in his final three years with the team. If he can replicate that success with Creighton, Blue Jays fans will quickly forget about Altman's hasty departure, a departure almost as hasty as the McDermott hire. Seriously, that was fast.
Some nice backhanded shots at Iowa State's perception of itself there...

I may have to break out and wear my Creighton hat tomorrow - they're doing us a gigantic favor...

Re: ESPN Reporting
Blue Jays should be the state bird.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

It may be a backhanded shot, but it for the most part is true - ISU basketball fans tend to over evaluate its importance in the MBB landscape. We tend to think we're all that when the best this program has ever been was LE's two year run from 1999-2001. And I love Orr as much as anyone else, and while he took a nonexistent MBB program and shined some national respect onto it, he only made it to postseason play half of the years he coached here and never better than a 7-seed. While he was fun here, we were never particularly relevant - and it's a truth that ISU basketball fans don't want to hear when they're busy erecting statues of him and naming the basketball court after him...

I agree... I just think it's not quite fair to mention when you are talking about McDermott. Certainly a realistic expectation is middle of the pack Big12 and maybe an NCAA tourney every other year. Not second to last in the B12 and no postseason like under GM.

in other news.
KG had been hired for Creighton media relations.

Re: ESPN Reporting
Let`s just say that GMAC was given a life vest a short time back, and he was told to be on the lookout for a passing ship. He is heeding that advice. It is a good move for everyone involved.

and the classlessness continues.
not that I would expect anything else given the lack of class some people have displayed over the last 6 months.

I agree those are "realistic" expectations, but personally I'd like for ISU basketball to aim higher than that in terms of expectations.
