Wait...so we not only jettisoned the coach we didn't want, but we also get 800K? This is awesome!
Green hills for thy throne, and for crown a golden melody/Ringing in the hearts of all who bring thee love and loyalty/Dear Alma Mater, make our spirits great True and valiant like the bells of I-O-WA STATE!
JP is the money man! 3.3 million dollar swing for ISU athletics by him not pulling the trigger on Mac. Now invest that money into a stud coach!
People were complaining that we didn't fire him and pay his $2.5 million buyout. In retrospect, that decision by Pollard was a $5.5 mil net gain to the AD. There is no way JP knew that Creighton would come calling but it turns out JP made the right decision after all.
Why are people praising Pollard for this? It was in his contract. Even Gary Barta would have gotten 800K from Creighton on this deal. They had to pay it. This should come as no surprise.
Pollard shouldn't get any negative talk from GMAC leaving and he shouldn't get any praise.
Creighton was still able to walk away from the table and find another coach, or at least act like they did and drag this thing out.
Also, it's a little vindication for the decision to hold off on firing McDermott. How ****** would everyone have been if we'd paid him 2.5mil to leave and THEN he takes the Creighton job. Praise well earned imo.
