    Interim Head Coach?

Serious question for Chris and KG.
Is it possible that we higher Nurse, Grayer, or TJ as a one year interim head coach?

I know it's probably a long shot but, I ask this because Oregon with all their money got Dana Altman. Considering that fact I don't know if we'll be able to manage much better. I for one don't want to hire a coach to a three year contract that is going to fair about as well as Mac. I guess what I'm saying is I don't want the team to be forced to hire a coach no one wants. So why not wait till next year when there is more on the market.

I guess I would like to hear what everyone would think of this if it came true?

Doubtful. Really a tough sell for fans, recruits etc, etc.

Listen we'll be throwing close to a million bucks a year for 4 or 5 years to someone. You can bet some decent coaches will come out of the wood work. Heck I'd take a stab at it if they really get hard up.

Interim is just a bad idea. you do that when you fire in the middle of the season, not for a whole year.

What seems to be obvious, is that JP has once again went into silent mode. No one is going to know what is going to happen until it is over. He said there would be no
other comment, and Malchow (sp) has said there will be no other comment. We won't know who our new coach is, until he is introduced. Still fun to speculate, tho, I guess.

I guess my main worry is that we sign a slow it down style of basketball coach. Considering the fact that Jamie loves Bo Ryan I think it's very possible. I personally believe that style of basketball is boring

Most often, it is used if the coach tragically dies or is disabled or something.

I don't believe we'll know until it's over. I would guess that even Gary Thompson is not being consulted this time- which is why his mouth has been particularly loud with the press this time. If Thomson was being consulted, I think JP would gag him.

Also my fear. We can't afford to hire McDermott 2.0. In the words of Rod Blagojevich, "[We]'ve got this thing and it's ******* golden." We can't afford to **** this opportunity away.

Why not, it might give you an opportunity to let Otz or Nurse take over the program, retain the roster as is and do a extensive search. Hiring a new guy isn't going to help this year's recruiting. Doing a search that gets resolved say by January or February allows you to see (a) what Otz/Nurse can do and (b) find the right guy like what happened with the football program.

KG? This just in...he is now an 'insider' at Creighton. He has not posted on this site since 4/23 at 7:45pm.

I suspect he is already on the Creighton boards spinning away about what a great hire GM was for CU.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

It will kill recruiting for fall and next spring. Considering we have 4 schollies opening up it is cruccial to get somone in here now. No one andI mean no one will commit to an interim coach. If we do that then we will be left with spring recruits to fill DG, Boozer, JVB and Dendy's schollies. We will be in the same position we are now.
Not only that but what coach is going to take a job mid season? Sorry but the interim tag would be the kiss of death

    Re: Interim Head Coach?

Interim doesn't work in college. If we have a couple of defections, it wouldn't surprise me if our roster next year is 4 seniors and 5 underclassmen. If so the new coach will need to sign up to 8 players next year. Nobody is going to sign with an interim coach.

Plus hiring an interim coach now wouldn't give us much of a start on a permanent head coach next year (like hiring somebody in January). Everybody who is any good will have a contract someplace else for next year and wouldn't be able to leave until the season is complete.

You want another student letter about Cyclone Alley?

If we are going to lose games at Hilton, fast ball is better than slow ball. We just did that experiement wehere we walk it up the court and then take a desparation shot at the buzzer.
