Second of all, as far as coaching goes....coaching in the NBA isn't as good as NCAA. Sorry. NCAA has a lot more emphasis on coaching. NBA is more about talent.
Glad it's not Gillispie. Fred's an unknown right now so his first moves are going to really define him. Hopefully they're good ones.
you people are ******* crazy - FRED FREAKING HOIBERG, this is like asking if the sun is a good fit for our solar system.
Here's to welcoming Fred Coach Hoiberg.
In all seriousness, It wasn't my first choice, but he is a Cyclone and I will give him the benefit of the doubt until given a reason otherwise.
Like him or hate him....Pollard has some serious, serious stones. This will be interesting if nothing else.
My second thought is WOW.
(totally different wows)
I love Fred Hoiberg. My most memorable game I attended in Hilton is Fred putting up all but two points in the second half. I'm nervous as heck and at the same time crazy excited about this choice.
The positive points have all been stated already. Fred is a winner. Fred is a cyclone. Fred knows basketball. The upside to this hire is far great then the McDermott hire. There is potential that Fred is going to be an incredible college basketball coach more potential probably than many good mid major coaches (I admit that is partially because he is unknown). If college basketball had a farm system we would have all been calling for ISU to give Fred the "Ryne Sandberg" treatment long ago.
On the other hand all the negative points have been well stated as well. He has no coaching experience and if this goes poorly it pretty much kills ISU basketball. The thought of this board calling for Fred's head makes me sick and there's probably a very good chance of that happening in the not too distance future.
If you are saying you are done with cyclone basketball because of this you were never a fan though. If you aren't very nervous about this hire, but don't have a big ball of excitement down in your guy you were never a Cyclone. JP is either a moron or a genius. Either way he has giant cajones. I have to at least respect the fact that he is aggressive and taking a chance that could pay off bigger than any other option. Would I have made the same call? - I doubt it, but I'm impressed that he did.
We got a guy who will actually want to stay here. Can't beat that.
I have met Fred on several occasions and I can say he knows basketball, he is very smart, he has a good personality for recruiting and I would not be surprised if Johnny Orr flys back home from Florida to be here for the announcement.
