just the excitement generated alone would argue yes.

Re: Poll: Is Fred an upgrade over Greg?
I don't know why everyone keeps saying "he needs someone with strong x's and o's experience".
What the hell do you think he's been doing for the past 20 years? you need to have the coach moniker in order to understand or come up with plays?

player retention alone is enough to consider him an upgrade.

Re: Poll: Is Fred an upgrade over Greg?
Fact of the matter is at this point Greg was a lame duck at Iowa State. He may be a good coach, but he wasn't at Iowa State and wasn't going to be.
Fred may or may not work out as a basketball coach, but he'll be a breath of fresh air to the fanbase and rejuvinate the program and people's interest in it.
That alone is an improvement from where we were to next year
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -
Re: Poll: Is Fred an upgrade over Greg?
Fred with no coaching experience > Greg with experience in losing.
I wasn't blown away by the hire yesterday but I am starting to come around real quickly on it. The more I think about it the more the CPR effect keeps going through my mind. GMAC had choked the life out of Hilton... that place isn't loud anymore, it isn't feared anymore...... With Fred it WILL BE AGAIN!!!!! I think the McKnight comment said it best when he stated he was going to be a Cyclone and saw the change as an upgrade for his future development as a player. The recruits we weren't even sure we could get are climbing over each other to be the first to sign. What is not to like?

That alone is an improvement from where we were to next year you know, the way Greg's ISU tenure turned out - he may just be a really crappy coach who got lucky to have a tremendous assistant in Jacobson at UNI.

It's nice to know nearly 80% of you are sane individuals. I had the number pegged at about 60% before this poll.

Just think about the potential for that first exhibition game to be sold out, and filled in terms of actual attendance, folks in seats. Then that ovation that our Mayor is gonna get when he's introduced in his first game, and the next, ......
Hilton is going to be a whole different ballgame, and the crowd is going to be all over this.
I figured 10 wins next year. Now I wouldn't be surprised to look at .500 with the energy at home. If Colvin came back, and we saw our young athletic players playing, improving, and showing strides, along with at least 4 newcomers the next season, we have a program showing actual, legitimate growth and hope.
