I think there are objective, legitimate reasons to be critical of JP, and if he didn't talk to anyone else, that is one of them.
That being said, you can't help but admire the pair of onions that JP has (figuratively of course).

Now, I didn't see the whole presser, just the last 15 minutes so maybe Fred had that moment, we will see. did you see the part when he talked about the picture of his grandpa? some raw emotion there...

Hearing all those names is very exciting to old guys like me.
I think he will be a non-stop worker and it will be fun to watch him develop into (I believe) a top coach that is 100% aligned to ISU fan's best interests! Fixed it for you. -

Re: ****OFFICIAL PRESS CONFERENCE THREAD****
The thing about this hire is that either you are going to hire him or you're not. There is no considering this. There isn't a resume or background to go over. Either you throw your balls in the vise or you don't. This is the riskiest hire he could have made and he did it. JP is going for broke here. I have to admire that. I also question it, but when there is a faction moving to the bad side on you, to do this, is incredibly ballsy. The plan he laid out must have been good because in the past, like with Rhoads, JP usually isn't this quick.

Like I said, I'm all for the hire especially after listening to the PC....but isn't anyone at all curious who the 15+ coaches who called Gary Thompson were?
I've heard Theus and Gregory (those are just 2) were interested in the job. Again, not saying they should have got it over Fred but wouldn't you at least interview or talk to them?

That is what I mean, I just didn't see it but maybe I will in the future. The thing with PR was that he didn't hardly even say a word. There really wasn't memory or anything he brought up. He was just that happy to be here. I am sure freddy is just as happy.

That being said, you can't help but admire the pair of onions that JP has (figuratively of course). That is logical IF you do not have a vision. JP has a vision of where he demands this program goes. IF he went to talk to Fred and Freddy's vision did not line up the contract stays in the breifcase and JP tells Fred to keep working on it.
The thing is, Fred has the vision, the same one as Pollard and why waste time and possibly lose recruits or TJ going through the motions of interviews?

Re: ****OFFICIAL PRESS CONFERENCE THREAD****
I feel better after this presser. I am fully in Hoiberg's corner, and have been since the 30 seconds of shock and the screaming of "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" in my head wore off.
That being said, keep in mind that this is just a presser. Hoiberg has a lot to prove, more than most coaches because he has nothing in his background, other than being probably the most beloved ISU alum ever, to go on.

Re: ****OFFICIAL PRESS CONFERENCE THREAD****
I liked the presser...thought Fred didn't do so well when reading his prepared speech, but once the Q&A started he definitely seemed more comfortable and loose. I thought he handled the questions well and it sounds like with his wealth of contacts, the Clones will be just fine!
I particularly liked the fact that that he clearly recognizes and addressed the need for a quality assistant or two to help mentor him with the other non coaching responsibilities. I think Fred's success in the early going will greatly depend on who he brings in to lean on.
