Deace was very sharp today
Stated that Fred is surrounded by people who don't want to fail him. Fred will have everything he wants (within reason) and all the support he needs to be successful. Nobody wants to see Fred fail and people will do everything possible to see that he doesn't.
Most head coaches would kill for this type of support. Coach K and Izzo may be the only other coaches in the country with this kind of support...literally.
If Fred fails it will be because Fred is just not capable of this job. I'm 99.99% sure that he is.

I think he is right, Freddy should be able to get about any recruit in the state of Iowa that he wants.

Re: Deace was very sharp today
Yup. Great show this morning. I'm getting really excited about what (should be) his ability to recruit the State, given all the upcoming instate talent. I'd have to think that (in Deace's words) Fred Freaking Hoiberg would be able to have some pull that Fran McCaffery just isn't going to have.

Re: Deace was very sharp today
Deace was right. Fred won't fight any of the normal stuff another HC battles. No one is going to come out against him. If he struggles, he generally won't get blamed. Won't be agendas against him. People will do anything it takes to help him succeed.
He still absolutely must hire a "been around" assistant. But I'm starting to dislike this idea a bit less. Not saying I'm for it yet, but the shock/frustration is slightly wearing off.

Wow - the subject "Deace" and the adjective "sharp" are two words I never thought I'd ever see in the same sentence together... Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

I don't mean this as an insult, but from you, as a guy that reasonably takes his time to make that jump and "come around," that last line is huge.
I thought this morning was very worth listening to. Spot on from what I heard.
On the same vein, I was thinking about the commercials we'll have for season tickets. Prior to Fred, what did we have to sell? The stars were gone. The record was bad. We had nothing really to put in there.
Now these ads are going to feature the Mayor, and people will go crazy. Partly, as Deace said, because they don't want to let the Mayor down.

Re: Deace was very sharp today
I think the hire of the Mayor was a big win for ISU. In the short term ticket sales for BB will increase. No doubt. After the first game, and onward, the one deficit in the resume will be erased. Hoiberg will have HC experience. Hoiberg is smart. And Hoiberg doesn't have such a large ego and arrogance that he won't recognize his weaknesses and try to eliminate those weaknesses with great people around him.
Put it this way. How could we be in the same or worse shape than what we had in GMAC? There is no way.
I also think that this has been in the works for a while. I think that GMac told Pollard that he was being considered for the Creighton job and Pollard told him he better take it if he was offered. Pollard may have even been telling GMac that publicly he would support him but that if the same results continued that he would be terminated. One thing is certain, Pollard has a set of stones on him. And Pollard is one lucky SOB. Thanks to Creighton also.

That said, I sure hope ISU is re-recruiting (and re-evaluating) Staten. Heelan has a way of pushing kids toward Iowa City.

Agree with both. Freddy doesn't mean anything to a Hawkeye fan. We are also getting to the point where high school kids may not even know who Freddy is, let alone have seen him play or understand his reputation.
Deace is sharp. I don't really like him but it is not because I don't think he is sharp.

When did Deace get a new screen name?
