We all love Hoiberg because of what he did here in the past - but it doesn't change the fact that this hire is an extreme gamble. I love the fact that Hoiberg has a plan, and is part of the reason why I have warmed up to this hire. But bottom line, the grade is appropriate, especially to an outsider like this columnist.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
goodman is a great writer and really knows his stuff, but that column was weak! pretty much everyone got a B or C. He didn't give anyone an A or a D. Hard to be too critical of all those coaches he's going to need for quotes from this upcoming season.
So let me get this straight. The McDermott hire was a B for Creighton and Hoiberg was a C for ISU.
That guy is hilarious. I am saying that even if Hoiberg doesn't pan out that the Cyclone Nation is enthused about the program and will buy tickets. ISU will not be any worse off record wise than we would have been with GMac. So I feel that it is at least a B rating. Hoiberg was an up and comer in the NBA ranks. He was slated for a very bright future. The ONLY reason he is at ISU is because he loves ISU and wants to return there. Hoiberg will have a learning curve. But at the same time the fans will give him some leeway and be patient. Plus Hoiberg may have a great upside.
I honestly think that Creighton got the short end of the stick. It now appears that Ben Jacobsen was the reason for the UNI turnaround. And that GMac was having some big difficulties running a Big XII program. Player attrition was terrible.
And there you go Hawk fans. You got a C+ so you can brag abouit how much better your hire was than ours. I was most surprised at Colorado A-. I would like to revisit this article in one and two years respectively.
