    2011 PG recruiting

seems to be our biggest need and could be the guy that Fred builds
the future around. Any ideas on who we might be targeting?

SF looks fine w/ Ejim and Cook
SG likely will sign 2 or 3 by 2012
Posts will need at least one every year
But the PG that replaces DG will be a huge step towards rebuilding this program.

We need to find a backup. I still believe Bubu will be a surprise and will be the starter for 2011, however we AT LEAST need one backup. If we can recruit over him great, but I would like to find a guy that is similar to DG in length at guard.

    Or so I have read.

I'm hoping we can get Xavier Thames from Washington State. I think he would be a solid contributer for us in 2011.

    We've been down that road.
To win in the Big XII our backcourt needs a serious upgrade.

Thames would be huge just for class balance.

I must be in the minority here.
Sounds like the board is willing to settle for serviceable
until Paige, Staten and Jok are available.
I know as a fan base we'll give Fred time to grow but
I fear that unless he makes a big splash in 11 recruiting
this program won't get the push it desperately needs.

Gotta go Juco PG next year to compete with Bubu and then young talent like Paige, Staten, and Jok to round it out.

I agree unless a stud 2011 PG drops in our lap.

Thames would be more than "serviceable".

IMO PG is just another piece of the puzzle

I think alot depends on if DeMarcus Phillips can play PG. We definitely need a quality PG in next falls recruiting class. It might even make sense to sign a JUCO & HS PG. We have seen over the years that relying on a freshman PG in Big 12 play isn't a great recipe for success.

However, I don't see PG as any bigger need that dynamic wing scorers. We seriously need a couple wing players who can drive to the bucket and make the 3. Maybe Oliver & Ejim can be those guys, but to date their press clipping seem to indicate athletic wings in the Rahshon Clarke mold.

If Fred is going to bring stability to ISU's program he will need to be looking a couple years ahead and right now the only underclassmen on the roster are:

    PG: None
    SG/SF: Oliver & Ejim
    Post: McKnight & Railey

I would think if we have a 7 man class next fall it would include:

    1 HS PG
1 JUCO PG (Maybe Prep School)

2 Wings *Elgin Cook* (We have Phillips & Christopherson for another year)

    2 HS Post (1 Athlete/1 Tough Guy)
    1 JUCO Post (Tough Guy)

I hope we can get away from needing JUCO players, especially to step in & be starters. But it might make sense to sign a couple next year to create some class balance as we have no sophs on the current roster. A JUCO PG could also be the bridge until a guy like Randle, Staten or Paige is ready.

Below is a link on Randle & Paige- both seem to have bright futures. It might be tough to get them in Cardinal & Gold.

I wouldnt be too opposed to going after this kid from Flint, Mich. He looks a lot like the LB Jeremiah George.
