OK, I'll bite, why go after Keeler when Witowsky wrote the story?

Is Raveling even relevant anymore? He was an average coach wherever he went, why does he feel the need to sour a great, exciting moment in Ames?

Wow, slow news day for the Rag. Terrible. Obviously trying to make up a story where there is none.

    Here's the link:

ISU basketball: University bypassed diversity rules to hire Hoiberg | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register

Pretty amazing reporting by the DMR! LOL Love how they put the side-bar about Iowa following the procedures in their hire.....and how minority head coaches does Iowa have again?

Where was the story about UNI when they hired Jacobson?

Just another attempt by the DMR to make ISU look bad, and Iowa look good. So blatantly obvious it is just laughable at this point. No journalistic integrity at all........why is this really even a story? Because a former failed Hawkeye coach made a comment?

Besides, procedures were followed. Waivers can be requested and granted, and in this case that is what happened. Idiots.

Re: The Rag, Keebler, and Raveling can stick it

I'm not sure why some Cyclone fans get their panties bunched up every time a sports talking head writes something about the Hoiberg hire? Pollard hired a HC with zero coaching experience. I don't know if there is a precedent for that at this level, so writers are going to question it. I happen to think it is either a visionary move, or a desperate tactic.

I'm totally ok with the hire, and look forward to watching Fred do the job. But I understand how there could be some criticism in the sports community.

Yet there are a ton out there that believe it like its truth. Sickening.

But if we'd pulled a total coup and hired some huge name, instead of someone without HC experience, do you think the media would be asking the same questions? I sure don't, and that's where my objection lies. If they're going to act like it's a huge deal, it should be the case regardless of who is hired, and regardless of which school. If we'd landed Naismith himself as our coach overnight, nobody would be going, 'HEY! You didn't interview any black people!' Right or wrong, that's the way things are working these days, and I think it's disgusting.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Witosky is the Register's "manufactured controversy" writer and has been for years. Would they have preferred a token interview? I doubt it.

Please. Why would anybody be? It's not a big deal nor should it be. Plus the guys who love to nitpick everything Iowa does have been pretty much relegated to the InState Rivals board.

Doubtful. I could care less if you interview a minority candidate if you already had plans to hire someone, white or black.

If a company called you to ask you to interview for a job just because they had to to meet regulations and you fill some sort of quota, even though they already were planning to hire someone else, wouldn't you be offended? I would.
