Re: Williams Blog: Pollard had to act fast
Maybe, this was the perfect storm in that Creighton pays McDermott's buyout(already had 1 foot out the door), ISU MBB at it's lowest point since Lynn Nance days, and Cyclone bred Fred badly wants to come home to rescue MBB program.
Pollard could take this risk at this point because it's hard to find a proven head coach willing to move at and of April/beginning May, and he'll be given more leeway because he's brought back a Cyclone great who's spent the last 15 years cutting his teeth in the NBA as a player/executive, eventhough the move is considered risky by many experts!
This is a roll of the dice, but I like the hire of the Mayor!! -

Greg's losing doesnt have any bearing on the decision to fire WM. The information at the time said 'fire WM', imho.
The info at the end of year 4, also said 'fire gmac', though that was overruled by a 2.5mil buyout.

What info at the end of Wayne's year 3 lead to you want to fire him moreso than Greg at the end of year 3?
(contracts aside)

They may have not been able to field a team without starting a walkon or two. It was that bad.

Ok, this thread is open for business again. Can we discuss things rationally without racist comments, personal attacks and downright rudeness? -

Re: Williams Blog: Pollard had to act fast
vmbplayer- Perhaps I didn't word that quite right as I didn't mean to insinuate that Cael wasn't ready (capable) of taking over the program, only that Cael wasn't ready to take over the program until Bobby was ready, which according to the guy I talked to wasn't the case at the time the move was made. According to this guy, Bobby wanted to coach a couple more years then turn it over to Cael, and according to him there was no chance of Cael going anyplace at the time JP made the move. But the Ohio State job opened up and JP insisted on making the move (to save Cael from going to OSU or make it look like he was saving Cael from going to OSU, take your pick). But according to this guy there was no chance of that. Just another opinion to add to the rest, but sounds like it may hold water since imo JP showed little or no respect to Bobby in the way he handled it. KJ also was obviously way down on JP's list when he shouldn't have been. Not saying there's bigotry there, but considering the double standard JP had with Morgan and GMac, I can see where outside groups might raise their eyebrows. Otherwise I think we've got a good history with minority hires with Gene Smith and Bobby Douglas being good examples.

You either hire Cael Sanderson then, or you get him never. That is all there was to that. There was no way in hell that Cael Sanderson was going to turn down the offers he was going to get while waiting for us. We have seen how much loyalty he had.

Did he ever think Cael would go to Penn St. DO you really think Cael wouldn't have gone somewhere with a decent offer. I don't. Not now anyway. I thought so then, however we have seen it play out and I don't think he was passing up that job.

yaman3-That's you're opinion and that's fine, but not the opinion of the guy I know that closely follows the wrestling program.
