My point is not to knock FH or his contacts...but to point out to those of you that thought that because FH was in an NBA front office and he has an impressive list of names programmed into his smart phone that the recruiting flood gates were going to be magically opened....unfortunately, it just does not work that way.
Recruiting at the major college level is a competitive and tough environment...I hope FH is able to effectively navigate the recruiting trail because ultimately it will be the determinant of his success at ISU. He never said the players were for 2010 and he never said he'd tell you who they were while we were recruiting them.
If people thought he was implying that we'd fill the roster next year with those players it is their problem.

The great coaches understand that you have to hit the ground running at full speed...you have to have a sense of urgency at all times...whether your team just went 1-30 or you just won the National Championship...whether you have been at your coaching gig for 30 years or whether it has been 3 hours.
I hope FH understands this better than most on this site appear to understand it. If you are not moving forward you are by default moving backward.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
Re: U of Minnesota looking for bb players as well
If we're thin next year, that just means that the young guys get that much more experience under their belts, which should pay dividends as the rebuilding process progresses. Next year is not going to be a make or break year for the program. -

Yeah, I completely agree that we can't hold FH's feet to the fire too much immediately as he tries to clean up the out of control grease fire that GM left him.
However, this is how the excuse making and lowering of expectations start. Ultimately, you never know what might come of recruiting between now and the start of school in the fall. Most probably would have said this same thing about GM taking over for WM and as it turned out the best player GM ever got to ISU was someone they got initially in the period when everyone said he would "get a pass"...Wesley Johnson.

Do we really have to start this junk in week 2?

It's kind of late in the game this year and I doubt Fred's going to start posting on here so CF can stay informed. I think it's a little early to start questioning FH's ability don't you?

Re: U of Minnesota looking for bb players as well
Did Hoiberg pass his recruiting test on Monday? My understanding is he can't even talk to recruits until he does that.
I think we should give Fred at least 5 days to talk to recruits before we write him off as lazy and unable to sign anybody. Maybe until that time he could turn in some sort of daily log so we know what he is spending his time on and who he talks to.

In terms of questioning FH's ability...why should that not be allowed? He has absolutely no experience whatsoever at doing what he is now being paid to do for ISU...that certainly does not mean he can't get the job done but I do think it is fair game to be discussed...and yes, even questioned.
Maybe a better question, is when would it be appropriate, in your opinion, to question what FH does? After 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, 10 years, never?

I have not seen anyone even insinuate these things about FH on this site.

Assuming next season's W-L could dip even further, why not develop from the ground up by actually throwing newcomers into the mix?
If I could deride GM for only one thing, I sometimes thought he put too many freshmen on Percolate, hoping to bring them up through the ranks instead of stripping down, taking a hit for a year but having it pay off down the line.
It doesn't mean Year 1 players have to be in the starting lineup right off the bat — just get them some serious playing time.

I didn't realize you were buddies with so many great coaches, and they all spend hours sharing with you exactly what it takes to be a great coach. Originally Posted by cyclonenum1 NO.

It's been what, 10 days since the hire? You really expect his contacts to have gotten these players to Ames, to have met the coaches and players, and sign a letter of intent in that amount of time?
I'm sure Johnny could have though...right?

Hearing that cyclonenum1 has been involved in AAU coaching
validates my opinion i have on most of them.
