Re: ISU feels like Rice, TCU, Houston in the SWC days
hmm, what is the big deal about a New Years or January bowl? I mean, we or the media or Iowa fans put this association with New Years or January bowl with having an elite football team. It is not 1980 any more when only conference champions and elite team played that day. Lot's of team play after the new year. Heck a lot of the times bowl game in December have teams that would destroy a lot of teams that play after the new year. Take the Holiday bowl for example. For the past few years it has had good teams.

if the big east falls apart as well, then I think the big 12 is gone, isu, ku, kstate, cincy, louisville, arkansas, west virginia, ou, osu, maybe a few more teams form a new conference..maybe

I think we will all know what is going to happen before June 30 -- that sounds like it is the 'magic' date. It sure sounds like Mizzou and nebby are gone for sure.

Signed the four top 12 teams that lost to lower rated Big Ten teams in last years bowl games....all of which were from perceived "stronger" conferences.
On the Texas note....A Big Ten would be foolish to NOT want Texas in the Big Ten. The amount of revenue they would generate for the conference would be incredible and it would give Big Ten teams MUCH more access to Texas recruiting....which would be a huge benefit for all Big Ten teams.
If the Big Ten went to 16 and went with the "four pod" alignment...adding Texas wouldn't be all that bad. If the Big Ten added Syracuse, Rutgers, Texas, Nebraska, and Missouri, you could see a a scenario where Iowa would get to play either Texas or Michigan/UM or Penn State every season....I doubt they'd ever play Texas AND Michigan/UM or Penn State in the same season.

I don't understand any Iowa fan being for Big Ten expansion except for the delusional ones that think their a top-10 football program. You would never beat Texas. Your days of being momentarily being = to Nebraska and Notre Dame are running out. Besides you make a ton of money in your current situation anyway, you add those teams and your just feeding the monster.

I can see it, because if Texas joins the big ten, Iowa will be in the same position Iowa State is in. Texas will dictate who they will play and when, and I guarantee you, you will never see Texas in Iowa in November. And if Notre Dame joins the big ten, you'd better pucker up, because that's all you'll be doing is kissing the golden ring and the steer's ***, year after year after year.

No they're not. All it will take is the formation of the new network. Run the numbers and show the schools that are thinking of leaving. It probably won't be Big 11 numbers, but it will be close enough that those schools aren't going to want to ditch all their traditional rivals and uproot for a new conference. Mizzou of course would need to see equal revenue sharing, but I doubt that Texas puts up a huge fight there given what having St.Louis in the fold would do for the bottom line. Also, you'd have to think that Fox or NBC isn't going to want to be left out of CFB, so they should be willing to pony up for big contracts. It all comes down to what the Big 12 (and Pac 10/12) can get with a new network contract and once those start getting negotiated, I'm betting that the thoughts of departures go out the window.
For all of the doomsday scenerios that even Miller and Deace were talking about, IMO a curveball just got thrown with the talk of a new Big 12/Pac 10 network. Seems like the Big 12 isn't just sitting around waiting for the Big 11 to take schools from them. CU to the Pac 10 a metaphysical certitude? I don't think so.
