Emmanuel Negedu
I have no clue if Iowa State is interested or not but Emmanuel Negedu is floating around right now as a Tennessee transfer.
Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com reported this morning that Negedu is visiting New Mexico today.
Negedu has a heart condition and some schools, notably Indiana will not clear him to play.
Again, I have no idea if Iowa State is interested or not but Negedu is a former Brewster Academy player. He played prep ball with Craig Brackins for a season and Iowa State did recruit him years ago after his time at Brewster.
For those of you who don't remember him, Negedu is 6-foot-7 power forward who was highly touted out of prep school.

Re: Emmanuel Negedu
I remember this kid. He is an athletic freak. Great hops in particular as I remember.

Re: Emmanuel Negedu
how many years would he have left?

Re: Emmanuel Negedu
To add to that first post, when I write that Iowa State recruited him, obviously there is a different head coach in Ames right now. However, Negedu was an Otzelberger target so there's still a connection.

Re: Emmanuel Negedu
So he started at Zona? Transferred to Tenn? Now is transferring again? Tough deal with the heart issue. Big time athlete with decent skills. Not surprised that shady Neal at New Mexico is in on this

Re: Emmanuel Negedu
If he was not cleared to play at Tennessee and Indiana, why would he be cleared at ISU, New Mexico, or anywhere else? Not saying I would not accept him at ISU but if he really does have serious heart issues, basketball might not be in his future.

Re: Emmanuel Negedu
I really doubt that a head coach with a heart condition would want to put stress on a student athlete with a heart condition
-
Re: Emmanuel Negedu
it would probably be pretty hard to sell FH on this since he quit after he found out about his condition

As a point of clarification, the Indiana medical staff did in fact clear Negedu to play, but the IU administration ended up nixing the deal. Indiana is incredibly gun-shy about anything that could even conceivably cast a negative light on the University anywhere down the road after the Samson fiasco. Even with all the bases covered, I think there is a concern at IU that having legal bases covered wouldn't be much consolation if something did happen to Emmanuel while playing for IU.

TheHelgo- Thanks, I did not know that. Still a scary situation.

I watched the ESPN 30 for 30 special on Paul Westhead's running system...it was called the "Guru of Go"...I really enjoyed it except for the part where they showed Hank Gathers collapsing and passing away right on the court in the middle of a game.
I'm sure this kid thinks he is invincible just like Gathers thought he was and it sounds like he might not have the right kind of people around him giving him advice. In my opinion life is more important than making money...I would hope we would not sign a kid like this and endanger his life.
By the way, I encourage all of you that knock and mock "streetball" to watch this 'Guru of Go' special...it should give you a little respect for 'streetball'.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
Re: Emmanuel Negedu
Then again find a better coach that he could play for. Fred probably knows the heart condition already. Probably knows how to deal with it and if it would be safe for him to play.
I see no better coach for Manny to play for.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Re: Emmanuel Negedu
A power-forward version of Ejim, just incredibly strong and athletic, notn super polished, all though the year off has helped. Going to visit 5 schools. (No Names) Some mid, some high.
