Potential Assistant Candidates?
The speculation that the reason FH hasn't announced the other assistant position is because he is still coaching in the NBA playoffs. So I checked out the assistant coaches on the remaining teams and came up with this list of candidates who have prior Collegiate Head Coaching experience.
I'm not sure on the how realistic it will be for some of these coaches wanting to come here or if there are any Iowa or Hoiberg conections but it is a list and it gave me something to do other than reading about conference expansion.
I'm wondering if naming TJ as the associate HC is going to cause problems getting an assistant of the caliber FH is looking for since I would think most coaches with the pedigree we are looking for would want the the title and pay. Also what is the precedent of having an the associate HC being mainly a recruiter rather than a "X's and O's" coach? I'm sure TJ knows plenty about bball but let's not fool anyone he is on the staff to recruit.

Re: Potential Assistant Canidates?
I seriously doubt that FH is going with someone in the NBA. My guess is he's looking at ex-college head coaches. Hopefully not Mr. Lickliter though.

Re: Potential Assistant Canidates?
That speculation is only Matt's speculation.
Matt went on and on today about how it is weird that we haven't announced the hired guy, etc, etc. He is also concerned because he hasn't heard any names yet.
What Matt doesn't know is that by looking around here on a public message board, you know that one name that has been floated around is Bobby Lutz. This was even picked up by some national media who have reported that both Iowa State and Oklahoma want him. So there's a name, Matt.
Listening to the two interviews today with Hoiberg, I'm guessing that he has the guy he wants (I'll go with Lutz) and he is just waiting to see if he ends up here. There was some speculation that the holdup on him deciding between the two (and possibly more) jobs is that he needs to work out a deal with Charlotte on his buyout.

I thought Lutz was fired by Charlotte this year.

I still think Tom Davis would be the perfect fit.

I agree with Lutz. I think Lutz is trying to decide if he wants to make the move to Ames or not.

1. Bobby Lutz
2. Mike Deane

If Charlotte fired him without cause (which they did), then he probably has some guaranteed money that they would have to pay. Usually there are stipulations in the contract that knock down the amount if the fired coach becomes gainfully employed by another university/professional organization by the amount of the new salary.

Yep, that's what I meant. I'm guessing he got something from Charlotte when they fired him. I assume that once it is decided how that will be handled, he will decide which job he wants. I have no idea if we can beat out Oklahoma for him, but if it is true that Larry Brown kind of set up the thing up, hopefully he can put in a good word for Iowa State.

Mike Deane would a pretty good hire too, I think. He wasn't real successful at his last stop, but he would be someone who has a ton of expirence as a head coach which is what we really need.
