Call me out of line but I for one was hoping we'd grab Horner instead as a grad. asst...... Would have done way more for in-state recruiting whether you wanna admit it or not! I guess it's a trade-off between bringing in a cyclone or a guy that is more well regarded throughout the state of Iowa...
How would Horner be better that Petey? Petey knows Ames, ISU, and the players. He seems to be a great person and is from Iowa. I think you can have 2 grad assts anyway.
The gap in our economy is between what we have and what we think we ought to have--and that is a moral problem, not an economic one. - Paul Heyne
Does it really matter if he was a "standout" in anyone's eyes? WHO CARES? Quit arguing. The fact of the matter is he was a great leader for our team and is staying on as a GA. I think that is good news and that is all that really should be discussed. This isn't about his playing career. It's about him being the GA.
Why do people insist on belittling former Cyclones? At least he stuck it out and was/is a great representation for our University. I'm glad Petey is staying. Great news!

More like one word set off a firestorm of irrational love for former player who gave his all but still wasn't close to being an average Big 12 starter.
I have nothing against Petey myself and I'm happy he's on the staff -- I'm just trying to correct that misconception that he was the one shining light on teams that won very little. He was responsible for the losing like the rest of the team. He's just that type of gritty small-town Iowa guy who all the fundamental-loving white guys on this board drool over. The problem though is he was just as crappy as making a post-entry pass as the rest of the team.
And if/when he becomes a great coach, he'll probably admit that he needs players that were not like him ability-wise. The guy played hard and did a tremendous job with what he had and I love him for it, but I don't want to diminish the play of his teammates by acting like he was a great player on losing teams.
The lovefest with Bryan Peterson is mind boggling. Sure, he played hard and gave it his all. But so did my intramural team. And we weren't very good either. Peterson starting every game for his two-year career is one reason I'm glad we don't have Greg McDermott coaching ISU anymore.
