My Grandmother died of ALS about 4 months ago now, tough to see someone in the condition that the disease puts typically strong people in.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Orr family.
Dr. Robin Orr was a highly-respected wellness and nutrition specialist with the University of Illinois extension. She had a passion for working with and educating lower-income people in these areas. She earned her Ph.D at ISU in 1992.
The list of honors she has received, both state-wide and nationally, would run the length of my arm.
For 17 years, Dr. Orr has been the voice of nutrition education for our most vulnerable Illinois citizens. March 19th was proclaimed as Robin A. Orr Day in Illinois by Governor Pat Quinn and the first annual Robin A. Orr Community Partnership Awards were presented to six honorees.
No parent should have to bury their child. Sad to say, but Romie may be the lucky one in this if she has progressed far enough to not be aware that Robin is gone.
I mean this in a very respectful way. Please do not take it in any other way.
Rest In Peace! God Bless
My thoughts and prayers also, and may Robin rest in peace.
My thoughts and prayers are with you family Coach Orr.
Horrible news, RIP. no one should have to bury their child at any age...
Robin was diagnosed with ALS in December 2009. It progressed very quickly. Besides her sisters, she had a loving caretaker by her side through this whole sad ordeal. Sammy Hill. He moved in to take care of her as soon as she was diagnosed. I know after talking with Becky (the youngest daughter) today that Johnny is devastated, as any father would be. Romie is aware of what happened, but don't know if she completely understands. Such a tragedy. My heart goes out to the entire Orr family, and to Sammy.
Here is a link to an article in today's Champaign-Urbana News Gazette:
sad. life is fleeting...
God bless the Orr family in their time of pain and sadness. With my grandmother passing away this year I know what it's like to lose someone close. On the the pastor said was if anyone said it showed weakness when you cry that's nonsense.
