2010 NBA Draft Prospect Interview: Marquis Gilstrap | NBA Draft, NBA Mock Draft, NBA Rookies, NBA Agents - TheRookieWall.com
I know he struggled during the Portsmouth Invitational but apparently he has been turning some heads. First Rounder???
Also, half way through the article they ask him about applying for a medical redshirt---he says he started the process but decided to go pro. I thought he got denied by the NCAA???

Spin-doctor at work there. Tell everyone he was denied when the actual truth is much different. Wonder who's idea it was to say that it was denied?

Re: Gilstrap Article
Yeah that is really weird... hmmm. Great article though. Thanks. I hope and think Marquis will do well in the NBA. He was my favorite player to watch last year.
Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd -
Re: Gilstrap Article
if that's true, it was probably macs idea. This way, all of us were ****** at the NCAA...if what MG says is true, we would have all been upset (and I use that word lossely, because you can't be real mad at a guy for going pro, if he makes it) at Mac for not keeping him or not having the ability to convince him to stay.

Re: Gilstrap Article
Wow---this upsets me a little bit. Gilstrap on next years team would have been unbelievably huge. He is a legitimate scorer/rebounder and would have the opportunity to run up and down the floor to showcase his athletic ability. Instead, I feel somebody lied to the entire fanbase---I'm almost positive that McDermott gave a statement saying that the eligibility had been denied.

jmb That would really annoy me if the NCAA denial was a smokescreen.
Perhaps GM gets a little slack from this response:
"(P)laying at this level really taught me the X’s and O’s of the game. I came to Iowa State with just my raw talent and playing at Iowa State helped me to become a better student of the game."
But then there's this:
"I felt I didn’t have a chance to really show my full potential mainly because I played out of position."
I hope he was talking about his role after the JVB/Boozer injuries and Staiger's departure. There was enough flexibility in the roster to adapt the starting lineup big (Brackins, Dendy, Gilstrap, Hamilton, Garrett) or smaller (Garrett, Colvin, Christopherson, Brackins, Gilstrap).

I think people are reading too far into this. I believe that Gilstrap made the decision that he was going pro, no matter what. So, an appeal was never formally applied for. Why make a plea to the NCAA, when we've lost so many times, if the player doesn't want to? May as well use it for players that want to return...
In Fred, we trust!! Go Cyclones! -

That's a good point.
I suppose the assumption among ISU fans tended to be that he would stay if he could, and since he didn't, the appeal failed.
But if he decided not to push it and instead turn pro, and we were told he lost the appeal ... that's not good. I could understand if GM was in desperation mode as far as PR at that point ... still would be inexcusable.

I'm sorry, but I stopped getting mad at the players a few defections ago and put all that happened on one man's shoulders. Now he's making a million bucks a year. Something just isn't right in the universe these days.

He did, right after losing to Texas in the conference tournament. It seemed like it was awfully abrupt for them to receive a ruling already, since they had been saying all along that whatever ruling came would be after the season. It looks fishier with this kind of story.

Re: Gilstrap Article
I haven't read the article yet but it looks to me like that site ripped off those photos from CF.
