Is anyone else real excited about basketball
First off I'm a football guy and played it through college but as a kid growing up in the 80's and 90's ISU basketball was light years ahead of it's football team (0-10-1 ring a bell). I had many great memories at Cyclone Stadium-Jack Trice Field (and now don't miss hardly any games at JTS) but my greatest memories as a kid were watching the great games at Hilton. Who didn't love it when teams brought in guys like Big Country, Danny Manning, Raef Lafrentz, etc. or when Norm Stewart would walk out 10 feet onto the court during play and the place would just go crazy.
Now with the re-tooled Big 12 I am pumped about getting to see every team in Hilton every year. This is great for us fans and for recruiting. I am more than confident that FH will get us turned in the right direction now that we know what conference we will call home and Hilton will be back to what we know it can be. Now that I have my own kids (4 & 1) i am confident that they will get to see Hilton the same way as when my dad first started taking me with our top row season tickets when I was 7 in 1985. Feeling the whole building shake and not being able to hear your dad yelling something at you even though he is 6 inches away is a very lasting impression when you are a kid kid and they are some of by best memories (FH dunk over Acie Earl anyone), and I can't wait for my kids to start having the same memories.
I know this is a very random post but I couldn't be more excited about the new conference alignment for basketball. Was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way.

DO we have a team to put on the floor?

Re: Is anyone else real excited about basketball
I think this year may be better then what some people think, yes we lost gilstrap brackins, and dendy. But Kansas lost aldrich, henry, and Collins. Texas lost Pitman, james, and Bradley. I mean it will be a down year for everyone in the Big 12 lol not saying it will be easy but if there was any year i would want to be rebuilding it would be this one.

Re: Is anyone else real excited about basketball
Kstate is still going to have a real good team. some preseasons have them top 5 others top 10. i know we beat them, but we lost everyone as well

Re: Is anyone else real excited about basketball
I agree, Kstate and baylor will be tough. But Oklahoma, OK state, Texas, kansas,Texas A&M all lost their "stars" and then Missouri lost their bench.
Then you still have colorado, nebraska, and Tech who are all beatable teams. So this year may not be as tough as some may think, yes all these teams i have mentioned have good recruits coming in but they will be in similar situations. No they wont have a new system and new coaches but it will be a rebuilding year for most.

I'm excited to see the new guys. I think the players will get comfortable with the offense quicker than they did with GMac's 200 different sets. I like the idea of spreading the floor and using GOOD screens to get open. Maybe it's just because I watched almost every game, but I thought we were the worst screening team in the Big XII.

I'm always excited for basketball season to start. I don't know if it's because I'm too optimistic or just stupid, but nonetheless, excited.

After looking down the Lost well the last few days, we better take the opportunity to kick bball up a notch. If we are not recognizxed on the national stage at this point, we have our work cut out for us. Given the bIg 12 vs CUSA crossroads, we better our tails in gear to get better fast.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Poor Acie... he was the victim of a few highlight reel dunks in his career. One of the most impressive dunks I've ever seen was Sam Okey taking off from about the free through line over Earl... I didn't know a big white boy could jump that far!
Gotta give Acie credit where it is due though... he scored a lot of points for the Hawkeyes.

Re: Is anyone else real excited about basketball
I am really excited to see what Fred can do. Having played for Larry Brown, Larry Bird, Flip Saunders etc. he will not be intimidated by the Big 12 Coaches. Also, loved his statement that this league is to physical to play 100% out of sets. The offense will be designed to compete and utilize it's players not limit the opponents touches. Exciting. I will be very interested to compare our Free Throw stas and shooting percentages from last year to this year. If we do not see improvement I will be shocked. It may be a tough year, but it will be fun to watch.

Re: Is anyone else real excited about basketball
Definitely excited. I like our back court this year (though it would be nice to have another guard on scholarship) and although the frontcourt depth is thin and extremely young, there's still a lot of athleticism and playing time to be had, so the likes of Godfrey, Railey and McKnight will hopefully seize that chance.
I think this year's team is going to really fight and show some grit and cause headaches. I fully expect us to knock off a team or two that we have no business beating.
My biggest concerns at this point would be outside shooting (Scottie is really the only guy that you would consider a good shooter), the inexperience on the inside, and last, who's going to be the guy that gets us the tough baskets down the stretch.
We saw last year that DG was able to take a game over (KSU after Brackins fouled out), and he's going to have to do a lot more of that this year if we're going to rack up some wins.

I cannot wait for basketball. I'm a bigger basketball fan than football and this double round robin schedule will be outstanding. Absolutely can't wait for the round robin schedules in both sports.

I think Demarcus will be really good.
