Gilstrap to try out for Mavs today
Came across this today... Dallas Mavericks Blog - ESPN Dallas
(The Mavs have the 50th pick)
The blogger mentioned he played mostly power forward at ISU... I thought he played more small forward.
Not sure if he'll get drafted... Could get a shot via free agent deal. Your thoughts?

If he doesn't, he could have a nice career in Europe.

Re: Gilstrap to try out for Mavs today
Hopefully they will put him in the position that requires the least amount of dribbling.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

No way he makes it. I do agree he could be successful in Europe.

Would be huge for the program I think if we could manage to get two guys drafted.

MJ (that of the Bobcats) told Gilstrap he had one of the best individual workouts he has seen this year. Does it mean he will get drafted? No but it is always nice to hear that from a guy like MJ.

actually, it'd be better if MJ didn't like Gilstrap. this is the same guy who made kwame brown the #1 overall pick. -
Re: Gilstrap to try out for Mavs today
that would be freakin sweet if he played here.

I really think his handle will prove to be better than some on here believe. Greg McDermott's offense (at ISU) had very poor spacing and movement. This resulted in poor driving lanes available for players like MG and made the team very easy to guard, especially when using any sort of help defense.

If his handle is better when/if he makes the league, it will because he worked on it

If the driving lanes are poor and spacing is poor, players have less room to operate, making help defense work much better. Defenders can get their hands in there, knock away balls easier, disrupt easier, step in for charges easier, etc. Of course this is just my opinion, feel free to disagree.

Re: Gilstrap to try out for Mavs today
A guy that has a decent jumper, can drive, shoot an ok FT %, and rebound like a madman with crazy hops always has a spot on a squad id say. Just gotta make some team believe

Re: Gilstrap to try out for Mavs today
I want both of them to be picked up by NBA. That would cinch our thought that McD could have real talent and not have a team. That would make a CU later pickup something to watch to see how it works out. The Dana Altman move should be interesting to watch also.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
