A few posts alluded to this in the Best-Worst thread. (So those people may repost their responses here.)
I think it's more interesting (and open to debate) doing overrated & underrated. And remember, "overrated" doesn't mean "bad" (and vice-versa), it's a relative assessment.
I have to think about it a little bit before I post mine.
I think one of the most underrated was Stevie Johnson. He was only 6'3" or so but was a good rebounder and could guard guys 6-8 inches taller than he was (absolutely owned Chenoworth from Kansas who was a 7-footer). More importantly, he knew and accepted his role. Did the dirty work on the 2000 championship team.
over-rated-(1) Jake Sullivan (2)W. Blalock
under-rated-(1)Tinsley (2) Fizer
Stevie Johnson was so underrated. "Mr. Hustle" An ultimate "team" guy. Good defender/rebounder....he was very active in the offense....but got the ball to whom mattered most - Tinsley, Fizer and Nurse. Just accepted his role which helped lead us to the Big 12 Championship.
Underrated----> Tyray Pearson

Loved that guy!
Overrated...
Shane Power or Adam Haulska
WAY overrated (or maybe just over-hyped) -> Shawn Taggart, Lucca Staiger
Underrated -> Stinson, Tinsley, Peterson
I would agree with Stevie Johnson being underrated. He did a lot of grunt work that people didn't notice and always left it all on the floor. One of my all-time favorite Cyclones.
Same with Kantrail Horton. Great 2-guard, but I think people forget he was a darn good PG in his own right. When Tinsley needed a break and Horton shifted over to PG, there was not a huge dropoff in our PG play. Flashy? No. Reliable as hell? Yes. Love that guy.
Jake and Will overrated? Are you kidding me? Jake averaged 15ppg at least every year. How is he overrated? Will was such a great player.Quote:

Jake was a very, very good player but do you think he deserved to be on the all century team? I agree with Rural in that he is probably overrated. Remember, just as the OP said, overrated doesn't mean bad. Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player ever but I think he is still overrated.Quote:
