Some MBB recruiting notes
Just a few hoops recruiting notes for your Friday morning.
- Royce White is pretty much impossible to get ahold of. This guy from the Pioneer Press claims that Iowa State is the new leader in the Royce White sweepstakes. That could very well be the case. But while you'll likely know LeBron's future by July 5, that doesn't appear to be the case with White. I've been told that this story could linger on for weeks. Stay tuned.
- The name Naadir Tharpe has emerged as an Iowa State recruiting target for the 2011 class. Tharpe is a 6-foot point guard out of the you guessed it, the Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. Tharpe originally committed to head coach Keno Davis and Providence a few months back but has since pulled that and is looking elsewhere, including Iowa State. Along with Jarrod Uthoff, I think it is safe to say that Tharpe is right up there at the top of Iowa State's priority list for 2011. I'll work on getting in touch with Tharpe here over the next week.

Re: Some MBB recruiting notes
Thanks Chris... hopefully we get both! we'll be pretty damn solid if we get em both... not expecting too much this year, but if we get Tharpe, and hopefully Royce would stay here...

Re: Some MBB recruiting notes
Maybe Royce is looking to pull a Brett Favre...hold out long enough to skip all of the off-season workouts, committ just in time to start practice...

I know it's been asked in other threads, and that you can't have too many guards, but what kind of a wrinkle does Tharpe represent in the story of Marcus Paige's recruitment?

Honestly, I wouldn't read into that at all. Paige is still a major 2012 target and will be, regardless of what Tharpe does.

Re: Some MBB recruiting notes
In ESPN's top 100 players for 2011, Tharpe is #52!
Considered the #8 point guard. He would be a great get! And you have to like our chances.

I would assume that's the case, just curious if Paige will be as keen on coming into a situation where he isn't the clear-cut #1 option at PG until his senior year.
The Brewster thing is fun to see develop in any case.

Re: Some MBB recruiting notes
Given the calidber of programs recruiting Paige, he will have competition no matter where he signs, unless he goes to Iowa.

Chris,
Any news on this rumored "Euro" player?

Fred has not Coached one game, but already seems to get it. Don't want to bring up our last Coach, but this is a welcome change. Fred is focussing on the type of kids that are going to help us win, and win big.
"For the great enemy of truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived, and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the clichés of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought."

Say Tharpe comes here and leaves for the NBA after two or three years of play. That gives Paige some development time with some playing time with an off the bench role and solid playing time in his So. or Jr. season. I'd love to see ISU stacking talent (at as many positions as possible) and allowing players to develop along side other talented players.
Dreaming ? Maybe but it would be nice to see a squad beaming with talent rather than one (or two) talented guys and a bunch of walk-on quality players.

I think we've just had too many years of having "playing time" be our only selling point that it's gotten hard to see things in other terms.

I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read.
