Since it was only a verbal agreement, Iowa State could have gotten out of this nearly scott free. Not sure why they felt obligated to pay him that much. I could see $50K for the trouble, or something like that. The payout from Creighton shouldn't matter. It's not like our athletic department is swimming in money!

no kidding. Some act like the money we got from Mc Dermotts buyout makes this OK. Im not seeing it.
50,000 per day and then gets his own job back.....so ISU gets 800k from Creighton - 175.
Still netting 625 thousand.
Don't forget about the buyout for the other coaches, travel involved with hiring Hoiberg as well as all the other legal and hiring type fees involved with hiring a new coach. My guess is that ISU did not come out very far ahead on the deal money-wise.

Don't forget that we had a lame duck coach that we couldn't afford to fire on our own, so even if didn't come out ahead at all it was a win.
