Re: Uthoff to commit tomorrow
I don't see anyone saying we don't want him. Most people would be happy to get him, including myself. It's just not a program breaker or maker, at least not right away. He has such a long way to go physically before he is Big 12 ready.

I don't believe that I've posted any thoughts about him until last night. The reason for that is simple: I just haven't been that convinced or excited about the prospect. It sounds like a nice story. He sounds like a guy that fits in really well in a half-court oriented offense, which really makes up the bulk of his offers, plus the two larger state universities.
Coaches evaluating talent seem to see him fitting into that sort of style best. That doesn't look to be what we're building up for here. If he does fit well into an uptempo game and he wants to be here, then let's do it. If not (to either of those), then let's move on.

Good thing he has a year and a half before he would ever play a game in college. A lot of time for a 17 year old to change their body

Yep, 6'10" 17 year olds are known for their ability to rapidly gain muscle.

How thick was Jared Homan at 17 compared to at 20? Nick Collison? Gordon Hayward? It is ridiculous to think a 17 year old kid won't fill out. Not everyone has a body type like Diante Garrett

Oh well, I'm just going to say I'm glad this board doesn't hand out scholarship offers.

Kids still need to grow into their body. Getting older and having a college weight program does wonders for kids like him. Look at Gordon Hayward. Same size as Uthoff as a junior in HS. Strength didn't stop him from being a player. Kids grow. They get stronger

Your calling the kid 6'10 (he's not) and saying that he won't be strong enough to play in the Big 12. I'm just saying that there are kids that are juniors in high school that grow after that and get stronger. Especially with the help of a strength program

Re: Uthoff to commit tomorrow
The point is Uthoff is a gamble because you are counting on his ability to either develop his ability to guard the perimeter or gain a lot of weight. If he wasn't a gamble he would be in some 150 lists.
Don't get me wrong I would love for us to sign Uthoff. My point is he is far from a sure thing, or a "can't miss". I do think he'll be a good player though.
