1987 ISU vs. Iowa Basketball game
Just finished watching the DVD of the 1987 game where ISU wins 102-100. After the game is over Johnny Orr and Tom Davis congratulate each other and Orr continues to go on to the next assistant in line who must have said something derogatory. Next thing you know Orr goes crazy and has to be restrained from the guy. You can see Bruce Pearl come in and try to get things cooled off as well. Does anyone know what was said and who the assistant was that ticked Orr off?

Was it Washington. It was the coach that squeeled on Illinois. Class act!
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought, cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives….. -

The comments were made out of emotion and all seems well today as I have witnessed the two converse within the last year
Dr. Tom thinks the world Coach Orr. I mean, he really holds him very high regard.

It was Gary Close. Close said something to the official time keeper about helping Iowa State with the clock. Johnny got pretty upset about it.

Do any of you know how or where I can get a copy of that game?

You are correct it was Gary Close and Rudy Washington dragged him off the court. It was an unfortunate climax to a great game. LaFester Rhodes scored 54 points...Jesse Jackson was in attendance and the Iowa fans were beside themselves. I was at the game and Hilton was rockin'. At half-time Iowa fans were asking who is LaFester? I told one of them if they don't guard him he will long be remembered. I think he had over 30 points at the half.
I have an old poor quality vhs of the game, but a cleaned up DVD would be nice. There were some great games between Iowa and Iowa State--this one was one of the best. Gary Close, i want to say you should be embarrassed for asking that, but then i just realized half the people that read this won't even know why that game was awesome. Good post.

Re: 1987 ISU vs. Iowa Basketball game
This game was one of my fondest memories while at ISU. The basketball tickets had become relatively hard to come by & everyone had to participate in a "lottery" just to see who would be lucky enough to be chosen to get student tickets.
Also, that year we had "rotating seats"....a student would have four different seating assignments depending upon the game (IIRC). Mine were: parquet just above the visitor's bench, the top row in the corner (horrible); first row balcony; and one other that I don't recall. For that particular game, three friends & I were sitting in the parquet, just behind the bench....it was simply fabulous!
Now, THAT was Hilton Magic...LOL!

Classic game. I lost my voice for days. Some of the stuff that happened during that game was unreal.

Best game I ever saw in Hilton...it was so loud prior to the introductions that the players could not hear the PA announcer call their names initially. It got louder and better from there.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Whatever happened to Lafester?

In our group were some Hawk fans, they were speechless after the game.
