If You Can't Beat Your Rivals, You Don't Deserve a National Title Shot
Iowa, beat us, beat everyone on your schedule, then you will get your shot. If you have to avoid tough games to get there, you might as well join the MWC.
Jeez, play the game, have fun. This week is what makes College Football great.
Sorry, just a rant from me.

Sorry, just a rant from me. I'm not sure I understand your rant...
Iowa lines up a harder non-conference schedule than a lot of the nation's top teams.

How about... If you don't beat everybody, you don't deserve a national title shot.

Re: If You Can't Beat Your Rivals, You Don't Deserve a National Title Shot
My rant is in response to the people wanting to nix this game. Iowa schedules fine, I agree, that is good, and if you win them all you deserve to be in. I just am annoyed by all this "we have nothing to gain by playing ISU" talk.
Rivalries is what makes college football fun. You don't see many teams that don't have to play an in-state rival or national rival of some level.
Love college football for this reason.

Iowa wins this weekend, but isu runs the table and gets a BCS 1 or 2...you don't think your clones deserve to play for the NC?
Interesting. -

Interesting. If Iowa loses to ISU, and runs the table to get to #1 or 2 that is fine, they are deserving. I am responding to the people that don't want to play ISU at all, because a loss could cost them a BCS or NC game.

Interesting. ISU running the table but losing to Iowa will not get us a 1 or 2 in the BCS

This thread is as uncomfortable as trying not to laugh when someone farts loudly at a funeral.

They said during the NIU game that we had the 3rd hardest schedule in the country. If we would go 12-1 with a loss early in the year to Iowa, the only way we get left out is if there are two undefeateds in the Big Ten or SEC. I think we would jump an unbeaten in the Pac 10 or Big East or even a Boise or TCU.
Even with a loss to iowa, you would have potential wins over top 10s in Nebraska, Texas, and OU. You would also have another win over a potential top 25 in Utah. And of course, you would have a second win over either UT or OU in the Big 12 title game. Having that one loss to a top 10 iowa early in the year won't hurt you too bad. I highly doubt that there will be 2 teams left at the end of the year with a stronger resume then we would have.

Beating Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Utah...not to mention a Mizzu team close to breaking the top 25...would have to get you close. 11-1 record with a hell of a resume! *Edit...12-1 with a Big 12 Championship game win vs. a highly rated team.
I disagree with the undefeated thing, as undefeated means little if your schedule is weak. This year is a little different because BSU is awfully good, and yes an undefeated BSU team deserves the NC over any one loss BCS team. If the Hawks cannot do it, then it would be a great story if BSU can.

It most certainly could. Say we lost to Iowa in a hard fought game. It's a loss on the road to a top 10 team. Not exactly a "bad" loss. Granted, we'd need Iowa to lose a couple games which would lower the value unless they win out and we get a rematch in the NC game!
To dismiss a 12-1 ISU team, with our schedule, from any NC talk isn't a 100% lock.
