Ring Sizing
I didn't find the other threads about rings, so: I'm looking for a good place in the Ames-WDM area that would do a great job, but not be very expensive to resize rings.
How much is it supposed to cost? How long does it usually take to get resized?
Thanks!!

Re: Ring Sizing
Ames Silversmithing
They turn things around in a day and unless the ring is something unusual I only think it costs around $20.

If you're in Ames this is the answer.

Ames Silversmithing.
Price various with the metal, width of band, sizing up or down, and if you're sizing up, it may cost more. I don't think there is a one-price-fits-all approach to this because each piece can be different.

That's a good point. I've got 4 to size down. 1 men's wedding band and my 2. The 4th is really thin....

Oh, and for future reference, if you buy a ring at Ames Silversmithing, sizing is free for life. "It's a jungle out there kiddies. Have a very fruitful day. J. Buffett -
Re: Ring Sizing
Ames silversmithing. I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend them. My wife's wedding ring had a loose stone earlier this year and I took it to them and they tightened it free of charge even though I didn't buy it there. That kind of service really means something.
In Des Moines I would recommend Joseph's. That's where I bought my wife's engagement ring and they also could not be nicer and more helpful. One of their associates sat down with me for an hour making sure I was educated on the way diamonds are rated and showed me various stone/settings. At the end of it all the associate told me to look around other places and come back if I wanted to. I bought the engagement ring before I left. When they resized our rings I want to say it took about 3 days to get it back.

Last year I had my 15 yr old wedding ring remade in platinum instead of gold (since gold turns my fingers green...), and changed the shape of the band just a bit. So, it looks nearly identical, all the stone are in the same place but with a squared band back. The sent the original ring out to have have a mold made and then reset everything. When I picked it up they told me lifetime free sizing. I've taken them on the offer once, as the modified band needed to be tightened up.
Can't recommend those guys enough!
