Highway 30 near Ames -- major work coming
From yesterday's Inside Iowa State: Median work on Highway 30 will continue through October
The inside lanes of U.S. Highway 30, between the Duff Avenue and Iowa Highway 17 exits, will be closed through late October so seven median crossovers can be constructed. The lane closures will be in place when workers are present. No work is scheduled Oct. 2 and Oct. 9, the dates of home ISU football games. The median work is in preparation for major construction work on Highway 30 in the spring.

I wondered if they were for median crossovers could be put in. I'm confused why they need so many though. Just put one by Duff and one by Highway 17 and you're set. -

So it begins.
Looks like Westbound will be first side worked on. They were putting double yellows to allow two way traffic on Eastbound.

Its about time they fix Hwy 30 between Ames and 17. Its like hitting a speed bump every eighth of a second.
“I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads -

Next they need to reconfigure that interchange at 35 and 30, its a mess that creates a backup 10mi back even for basketball games.... and it seems at least once a year someone ends up going off the bridge due to merging incidents.

I knew this was coming but let me just say, praise the lord hallelujah!!! That is the worst piece of road I have ever driven on. A number of times I felt like I was going to lose control just by driving on it.

Re: Highway 30 near Ames -- major work coming
Thank God, that's a nasty stretch especially if you're in the left lane. Now if they could just make it 4 lane from Ogden back to the west....yeah, not gonna happen in my lifetime.
Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience. -

Been pushing for four lane from Carroll to Ogden for along time in this area, but don't see it happening. It's about damn time they fix that road, it's been a back buster now for about 2 years. I have actually chose shopping in Ft. Dodge over Ames because of that stretch of road.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

I think I took 2 years off the life of my car driving that stretch of road this winter.
Does anyone know what they are going to do to fix it, and how long it will take?
