Has anyone tried hooking their MagicJack up to a fax machine? We have no need for a landline other than we still like to use our fax machine from our home office periodically. The $20 a year would be a bargain just to be able to send a fax now and then.
We have 7 Mb DSL. I have Googled the faxing question online and it seems that some people report having good luck using MagicJack.
If you have kids you should be aware the police, fire dep't, etc cannot match a 911 call to a resident address if you have MagicJack. There were other things I've forgotten about that made me rule it out. The advertising thing was one of them. Try Googling MagicJack review, I think that's what I did. I am surprised Consumer Reports gave it even a lukewarm reccommendation.
So you're saying this may help with all the prank calls and bomb threats I've got planned?
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan.
Anyone using this? Apparently you can keep your current phone # now? And don't need to hook to a PC? Their website is alarmingly short on details though. They just want you to do the 30 "free" trial but ask for credit card. I'm hesitant to give them my cc though.
I've been wanting to get rid of the land line, but just can't "pull the plug". I am looking into the Verizon Wireless Home Phone Connect, which is supposed to be just another $10.00 month. I hate to give up a number after 19 years.
No experience with magic jack, but my experience might be pertient. Take a look at your service providers. I don't use my home phone for much of anything, but because I have phone, television, and internet thru the same provider (small local co-op over here), by the time you figure in the discount I get on all 3 services, it would be more expensive for me to NOT have the land line.
I've had it for a little over a month. The new Magic Jack doesn't need a computer but I have mine plugged into the computer since I leave it on all the time for iTunes.
Works great, emails you when someone leaves you a message and it's $20 a year for local and long distance. Infinity wanted $30/month for local service only and pretty much the same for Quest.
So far, I'd say it works fine. Transferred my old number over. Took about a week.

Work pays for my cable Internet and I have dish network for tv.
