Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
Couple of things...
When approaching the Regents.
Our stadium Capacity is 46K. Not 55K.
I know someone above quoted the Miss St Scoreboard and Sound Package of 6 Million. That is the 2nd largest scoreboard next to Texas in College football.
A better comparision may be Indiana. They spend about 3-3.5 Million and did serious upgrades to their video board and sound. Their video board is the 10th largest. We bugeted 4 million so I am thinking this is going to be a major upgrade.
***********************************************************
Indiana .....The scoreboard, measuring 36-foot high by 91-foot wide, will feature a high definition video screen with wide-angle visibility and unparalleled image clarity. It can operate as an independent display showing "wall to wall" video or other images or be divided into multiple zones (windows) to show a wide variety of statistics, information, graphics, animations and live and recorded video in HD content.
The new unit is 325 percent larger than the video screen within the old scoreboard that was installed in 1999. In addition, IU football fans will also hear all the hard-hitting action with a custom audio system offering a powerful experience with sound projection and speech intelligibility. Unlike its predecessor, which was designed to amplify only speech, the new audio system is designed to reproduce high-fidelity speech, music and other audio.
The Big Ten's second-largest scoreboard will also serve as a new revenue source for IU Athletics, and its integrated video and audio systems are being provided by Daktronics, Inc.
The total price for the scoreboard package is $3,000,000. The scoreboard purchase is being funded through the IU Department of Athletics budget Hoosiers continue football upgrade with new scoreboard - Indianapolis Indiana Hoosiers | Examiner.com
Hoosier fans at Memorial Stadium will also hear the action with a Daktronics custom audio system offering a powerful audio experience with excellent sound projection and high speech intelligibility. Unlike its predecessor, which was designed to amplify only speech, the new audio system is designed to reproduce high-fidelity speech, music and other audio. I am reading into this as being a top 15 scoreboard which could slightly compensate for the stadium for now. I think they really need to leave the south one alone until the the upgrade the south. Its going to look pretty bare down there.......

Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -
Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
As has been the case all along, the South Endzone will happen when we get a major donor to step up. Nothing has changed there, other than maybe we haven't gotten one to step up as soon as we thought we would. If one of us wins the lottery tomorrow and writes Jamie a check for $40 mil, construction would start at the end of the season regardless of how many fans we have coming to games.
I am excited about the stuff coming for next year. I hope they give some more explanation soon so we can get a better idea what it'll look like.

It won't be long now before I win the lottery.. And guys, I promise to be the donor to step up to the plate.. On the condition that I have the option to rename the addition each season to whatever I want

Any concept art of what a score board would look like on top of the Jacobsen Building - I'm having a really hard time seeing that looking good at all in my mind.

Anyone know what the attendance was like under McCarney?

Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
Okay guys. For those who don't know or don't remember, someone gave a huge chunk of change for a new Track stadium. If I recall correctly it was over a million. Adding the soccer field in the middle of the new track stadium is only the logical choice.
As for the score board, this probably is in preparation for the south end zone. When you plan to have only one empty (no seats) endzone, it makes sense to put the score board there.
