Pollard on Facility Improvements
JP is on call in show tonight....He just said two projects are imminent for the athletic department. The first one is a new scoreboard/ sound system for Jack Trice that will be in the north end on top of the Jacobsen Bldg! Second is a new track/ soccer complex. Both of these will go to the board of regents at the end of October. Construction starts in spring, scoreboard will be ready for Fall 2011 football season.
The next two projects are dependent upon the next big 12 television package and fundraising. In the future, he said they want to build a football building connected to the current practice facility. South end zone is off in the future and cannot be justified at the current time. He would have a hard time selling it to the board of regents with our current attendance.

Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
god **** the regents...they keep cutting the amount of money they give us but it seems like they keep increasing their power over the universities. they can go **** themselves

Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
So we'll still have the craptastic video board and speakers...damn. Even Kent State and Toledo have nicer video boards than we do. -
Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
South Endzone is about making the stadium look good, not about increasing capacity. It won't increase capacity.

New sound system/scoreboard sounds good to me!

On another note, I'm really, really curious to see drawings. This could either be REALLY cool, or the ugliest thing in history.

Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
My understanding is once the new scoreboard is put up they will remove the old scoreboard (south endzone) and move that to the new soccer field.

Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
Theres been a lot of smoke on here and elsewhere about a new video board and sound system going over the top of the jake. Ive gotta agree, those are priority 1 improvements as our current system is embarrassing.
Id be interested to know what our season ticket sales are for this year. Our attendance numbers have been way off at every game, that points to a major season ticket sale drop to me. Knowing that, i can see how itd be hard to justify that to the regents, even if phase 1 isnt about increasing capacity.

If the state doesnt want to give any money to the department, the state shouldnt have any control over what the department does.

Baby steps.
My guess is that the South Endzone is really just dependent on a lead donor. If a donor steps up, it will happen. If they don't, it won't until the regents are ok with it.

Re: Pollard on Facility Improvements
I hope the new videoboard is large and in charge. It would be really pathetic to put something similar to the south endzone on top of the Jacobson Building. I am hoping real state of the art...or it is not worth it.
