They already do. The Delaware Aqueduct. The swiss just built the longest transportation tunnel.

I have it on good authority that the Swiss actually drove the tunnel drilling machine all the way to Chile to free the miners, but they were a couple days late.

Then they just drove it back to the Alps and pretended to build some tunnel in the middle of nowhere. That's what I heard anyway.

Didn't read the article, only looked at the pictures. But I'm pretty sure that's what the tunnel was, finally connecting Switzerland to Chile which was a much needed route.
