The original Halloween is the best Halloween movie, IMO.
I love "The Shining" too, but don't consider it a Halloween movie, and don't watch it during the season because of that. I save that movie for when the family is snowbound in January and February.
They are showing movies 1-5 over Monday and Tuesday.

Re: Favorite Halloween movies?
I would say the Exorcist, The Shining, and then like a 28 Days Later or something like that. I couldn't get into Drag Me to Hell... I thought it was easily the most overhyped horror movie I'd ever seen.

Overhyped? It isnt supposed to be scary. Its Sam Raimi camp. They are making a 28 Months Later before too long with the original director. I hope its better than weeks.

Re: Favorite Halloween movies?
going to suggest some more obscure movies that those who appreciate the genre might like:
the Evil Dead series is worth a watch if you like black humor. I like #2 the best.
Nightbreed is worth a watch-an 80s sci-fi/horror/action movie about mutants that live in an underground complex under a cemetery.
The Innocents (black and white, which adds to the story)
The Brood
Quartermass and the Pit (looks cheesy, but is unusually good and scary)

the nightbreed mutants are very interesting, like a woman who is part porcupine and can shoot her needles.

Quartermass and the Pit (looks cheesy, but is unusually good and scary) I've heard The Innocents is excellent and it seems like it's always on a top 10 list for best horror movies. Haven't found it yet, but am always looking when I go to used movie places and stuff.

The Birds....
Ok I kid, I hate horror films, so I'm no use. I would be the one watching Monster House or Hocus Pocus.

I will always have a little love for Friday the 13th (part 1), as well - Jason's mom looks almost exactly like my grandma did when she was younger.

I'm also partial to the original Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street (before they made Freddy some wise cracking moron)

The saddest thing about the first F13 was that whenever I tell any of my friends or employees that Kevin Bacon was awesome in it, they refuse to believe he was even in the movie. He was classic Kevin Bacon in that movie. Like, awesome "Tremors" Kevin Bacon, not crappy "Hollow Man" Kevin Bacon.

I love the movie. No matter how many times I've seen it, the scene where Michael appears behind Laurie in the dark doorway and the mask is the first thing that appears from the darkness is scary as hell
