Sorry Kids, IC bars to stay 21

900 vote lead with only 6 districts left to count. I feel sorry for all of the bar owners that have just in the last year became concerned about the safety of the college students.

I haven't been to IC for awhile, have there been any bars shut down bc of this?

1 district left. Kids need 1500 votes to get their bars back.

So sad. I'm sure going to miss all the vomit & violence downtown.

Not yet, but it is about to happen. Places like the Fieldhouse & The Union need those kids. I'm seriously going to be looking into rental space when they go under. Should be a little cheaper, and I always wanted to own my own place. Maybe a Green Door in Iowa City?

Needless to say, I'm extremely excited about this. I don't know if bars are going to be shutting down because of it, but it's likely. The downtown area is just getting too ridiculous. As a resident, I'm glad to see that this if finally over.

But seriously, not sure how they ever got away with allowing minors into bars in the first place. A ridiculous notion.

My exact thoughts on the situation both when I was underage and now that I'm of age. Kids under 21 don't belong in bars. Period.

The owners had many chances to redeem themselves. All they had to do was split the areas into 2 separate zones, and pay the dude that enforces these zones enough so he wouldn't "look the other way." They had their chance to make a compromise, but they were greedy. Instead of owning up to it, they poured out the crocodile tears and said they were looking out for the kids.

On the down side, I think Iowa football arrests are going to drop dramatically.
