OT: Installing OSX Leopard on a PC

Has anybody done this with success? My wife is a huge, huge Mac lady and we are in the market for a new computer. The problem is for a comparable unit to a PC with my employee discount we're talking literally a 1500 dollar difference.

I've been reading about installing Leopard on a PC for a little while and it sounds like they have really done some good stuff in regard to making it a true port. Has anybody done this with success? I could easily sway the wife to my way of thinking if I were able to install OSX on the machine. I personally don't care what OS it has on it, I just want the thing to be cheaper. Keeping iTunes would be nice though.

Here is what I've read on it but I haven't found too many success stories yet:

You won't get the full experience unless it's a Mac. And you can keep iTunes no matter if it's a PC or Mac.

I was trying to give my student a few songs off of my pc itunes but her ipod was formatted in mac. now I have to lend her a usb thumbdrive so she can do it herself. stupid incompatibility. I would buy my wife a mac from a flea market or a pawnshop before I would install a mac os.

There are plenty of Hackintosh guides out there. Seems like LifeHacker.com posts one each month.

Also, have you looked into an Apple refurbished unit?

Cylobo don't blame the mac cause you can't share songs from iTunes. If her iPod is synced to another library it won't sync to yours unless it does the entire library.

You're essentially trying to bypass the drm.

an iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time (regardless of type), probably to prevent file sharing

Also...her iPod is formatted/synced to a specific iTunes library. It doesn't matter if it's a mac or pc.

What two units are you comparing? $1500 seems like a very high difference.

You can build a hackintosh, but you have to have very specific parts, because you won't be able to get working drivers most stuff. It is possible though.

MacBook Pro 17 inch 2.53 GHz unit. Exactly matching specs with a PC. Apple's is 2299.00 and HP's is 739.99. Actually the difference is about 1560.

You will notice the Apple advantage. Very very very little worry about a virus, smooth running programs, no error messages...etc. I could go on and on.

I've used Apples for about 8 years, remember she is an Apple lady. And all of these benefits are grossly overstated in my opinion. I have had no better luck with Macs than I have with PC's, and in fact the only critical errors I have ever had with a unit came on a Mac and they are also incredibly expensive to fix.

Currently installing it on a core 2 duo. Initial formatting of the hard drive was awful, but past that its been smooth.

Let me know what you find out and if you can get drivers to work. I'm all for it if I can get video and sound cards as well as wireless internet to work.
